Ive made my own Roman scutum which I showed on the forum several months ago and also other things so I decided to write out a few tutorials on how to make them if anyone is interested.

my only criticism is that you used ehow instead of instructables or something. i'm not a big fan of how the ehow and stuff like that is formatted.

Perfect timing! It just so happens I'm making a shield for my son, and later one for myself. While I can do the heraldry and painting and all that, no one ever seems to show how you attach the #*($%!! >:( grips and all to the back side. THANK YOU!!

Made some shields for my nephews and little brother for Christmas last year. This is the only picture I could find of them, wish I had one of the backs. Used leather belts for the straps, found a bunch on clearance at Wal-Mart. You can see the bolt heads on the faces of the shields where the straps are attached. They turned out pretty well.
Oh, and the color schemes are based on each boys two favorite colors, just in case anyone was wondering.

They look good. I like the cadency marks, too.
