Yes there is evidence. Here is a Celt slinging on YouTube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=A4l0mBx6wVM  ;)

But seriously,

Irish slinging: http://www.libraryireland.com/SocialHistoryAncientIreland/I-III-4.php

Iron Age British slinging: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=3lkEgdtOvGEC&pg=PA534&lpg=PA534&dq=iron+age++sling&source=web&ots=G9ePhiKkT5&sig=iQIQGwZVzRJv6QMHUO0pD0ReGTc&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=result

Unfortunately no slings have survived from that period so we have no idea how they were made.

Barry Cunlffe, in Iron Age communities In Britain
Micheal Avery Stoning & Fire at Hillfort Entrance of Southern Britain published in World Archeology vol18#2 weapons and warfare October 1986

Both of them deal with the archeological evidence of the Celtic sling. There are various mentions in the hero sagas of slinging.
 There are no real slings fom the Celtic period that I know of, however, in Dublin, sling pouches from the early Middle Ages have been found. this close enough?

How about this one? If I understand correctly it's based off of the Dublin artifacts.

Pouch is correct. As for the cords, well, it's anyone's guess

Thanks for the confirmation. At the SCA A&S Competition I entered last week on my NW European Slings I entered several pouches with diffrent means of attaching the cords.

That is not my Dublin Pouch I snaged it from
http://mikkelf84.livejournal.com/

It's Mikal's Lijejournal page. He's the gent that provided us pics of the Randers Sling.
