about how long does it take to get used to a sling and develop mediocre accuracy and power with it?

I think it depends on the person I learned really fast when I used my first sling ,but then I stopped for a year and for some reason now I have a hard time aiming.

Ah this is a zen question, well it's a zen answer.

It takes as long as it takes.


Each person has different physical capabilities and hand eye coordination.

I was slinging with power and confidence about a day after making my first sling - but 20 years later I still wouldn't consider myself particularly accurate :-)
But then I get the most satisfaction from just putting a stone so far out of sight I can't see it land. Hitting stuff that's close up doesn't really do it for me :-)

You can do certain things that will help develop your skill and accuracy. A good reliable sling is the best place to start - get an aussie sling.
There are various articles and threads about how to develop accuracy - a good one recently in one of the threads about concentrating on one aspect at a time.

But we are all different - practice will always help.
So do lots of practice :-)

by the size of your foot im geussing you are... 12-14?

Thats like asking how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop.

Above anything experiment and practice. Use what feels most comfortable. after it starts to feel natural slowly hone that feeling.

Or do like CA said and just throw that stone out of sight. That is such an awesome feeling and never gets old.

Completely dependent on your idea of mediocrity :).

All I can say is that you are likely to get better all the time.

By my standards of mediocrity I was mediocre in both accuracy and power from the start. By the standards of some on this site I would certainly still be considered mediocre ;).

And a solid pouch sling is MUCH easier to learn with than a split pouch sling.
Considerably more things you can use as ammo and no danger of something of borderline size forcing it;s way through the split and going backwards at velocity. Oh yes it happens :-)

But braiding wise you've braided one more sling than I have :-) So kudos for that.
