Made 3 bola's a while ago, this was the last attempt and also the best. Each fist has 5 wraps and the handle is my own idea.

Five fold, a very nice looking bola, what did you use as core in the fists?

Same question, what's the core made of??? Looks very effective though.

Works very well. Had the first one I made from 5mm climbers utility rope and some ball bearings at the beach three weeks ago. It spreads very nice but found that one too heavy. Made the second one the same as this one but with 4 wraps and pawd it of to my director where he later that week proceded to put a dent in his wifes car.

So yes, I think it is usable. Do I think I will ever use it on a animal, very unlikely.

but you could stick some posts in the ground and see if you could wrap it round them :-)

so how long are the cords between the handle and the balls ?
and would you be willing to trade one for something ?
pretty sure I haven't sent anything to africa yet :-)

The length of the cords are 1100mm (1.1m)

Sure I will be willing to trade. Let me know what you think it is worth. I could really do with some proper 440 mil spec paracord, can not find the stuff in SA.

And sorry for the late reply.

I'll have  a look see for the cord - I have no idea what 440 mil spec is though. I tend to just buy 20 metre lengths of green stuff that says paracord on the packet :-)

Have a look on this website
http://www.springfields.co.uk/

It's my local army surplus store - if they don't sell it I can always look elsewhere :-)

:-[

Sorry, my bad.

It is 550 paracord. It has seven double strand braid in the inside and a nylon sleeve. See what you can find. If this is not possible I am open to other suggestions for a trade, you decide.

I must appologise. I can not expect you to buy something to trade with. I think something made with your own hands would be more suited. I will send you the bola by tomorrow. Once you get it you decide what it is worth and what you are willing to tade for it.

Sending PM.

That bola looks really nice. The one I made is a two wieghted kind and I used 2 oz lead as a core. It is 6 feet between weights. The 3 weighter I have uses golf balls. Both of the bolas I made use 40 lb nylon.

Beautiful work! My own set is 4 braided strands of flat parachute cord. For weights I used 2 6-oz and 1 8-oz fishing weight. Where they join I used a 2-inch steel ring I got from a tack store. I actually throw mine by holding the center weight (8-oz) and swinging it.

I think the mouse balls is a great idea! But how do you tie a monkey fist knot? I've never seen one before.

To dave!
tie it first, and keep all the loops loose except one set. then tighten them around. It's easier said that done but try anyway!

An excellent idea on using a monkey fist. That will save a lot of time instead of sewing a leather sheath. Great job and very innovative work. Thanks.

I think it looks quite nice. I think I might try to make one again. (My first one was a flop)
