Title: Bulidnig/making a bow?
Post by IL_Mamba_Negro on Jan 12th, 2007 at 2:55pm
I need to make a bow...

But not just any bow, it should be a bow from 12-th or 13-th century.

A friend of mine told me to look for some info on slinging.org forum, so I've read some topics here.

Basic thing is I wouldn't make it from a plank because most planks these days have been made with modern tools.

It should be made from wood gathered somewhere in the forest and I'm well avare that I won't make it perfect in my first try.

Couple of most important things are:

- it should be something between a shortbow and a standard bow so I can carry it on my back (not longer than 5 feet)

- it should be made so I can carry it without the string

- the string should go on easily (and quick)

Any help would be much appreciated, and even links to specialized sites.

Tnx in advance...

i absolutely love this site for making bows http://xsorbit4.com/users/buildabow/

you can cut your own tree and split it into staves then season it but it will take awhile for it to dry or you could order a stave off of ebay or somewhere else

you'll need to learn how to follow a ring and it will take afew hours longer shaping it then with a saw but ive seen alot of people do it
the bow you want seems like it would be difficult to make :\ but
goodluck  ;)

Yes! Great books!  They also have chapters specifically dedicated to certain era or bow types.
