Actually, rope dart is a martial art weapon, not primitive weapon. ::) What is your opinion?

The ancient Chinese came up with several versions of the RopeDart . Its original use was as a hunting and fishing weapon . Now its a cool Wu Shu weapon with primitive orgins . Read the book on RopeDarts and Steel Whip  :)

cool. but i tried makeing one out of a piece of ground rod. it came out deadly looking, but i dont know how to throw it, it keeps on slaming into the ground sideways, not point first.  i tried tieing a piece of cloth, a piece of tarp as a parashoot, and even a bunch of magnolia leafs :P to the string. any help there? btw, leafes dont make good stabaliseres, big suprise there :o lol, but anyways, i need any advice u got cause this seems to be a cool weapon. 8)

here is a rope dart I made with a big sharp nail set.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1263/picture112xe2.jpg

The nail set is about 9 inches long and 1/2 inch thick at the thickest part.
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/2845/picture113tt4.jpg

It is attached to a rope about 15 feet long that I can reduse to 3 feet for storage or transport. I reduse it with a knot king of like the chain knot descused in the other rope dart subject and the knot used for a sring sling. When you pull the middle of the series of knots they dont release but when you pull the final peice of string they realease.
Here are three pictures that will help you understand what the knot is or how tt tie it.

And its from "Yousendit" A free service up to 100 megeabytes . Use to be 1 giga byte . Do check your email and "junkbox". I can send it again or someone else could please :)

You'll also need adobe reader which is also free ;)

here is how to make a quick mini ropedart pretty cheep (if you have the stuff laying around.  otherwise it will cost about $5 US, with lots of leftover material)

first, get some braided mason's line like this:
mason's line

then get an eye screw like this:
eye screw (mine's about 1.5 inches long)

and cut a length (i use about 15 feet) of the cord, and tie it on to the eye screw with the best knot you can think of.  i use a trucker's hitch:
trucker's hitch

makes for a good littl epocket version of the ropedart (though deploying it is a little tricky because the line likes to tangle when i take it out of my pocket.  perhaps a loose monkey chain?)

Sounds like it would work . How thick is the metal ? Got a picture ? :D

well, actaully i don't have a picture, but the gauge of the wire it is made from is something around 1 or 0 (that is, if you are using the american system.  i don't know how international it is though.)  it measures at about 1/2 centimeter in diameter.
when i find it again, i will see about taking a picture (it is lost in my room somewhere now  :-[ )

Neat :)
Say though, why use a trucker's hitch? I thought the idea was to be able to compound force (gives you  twice the 'power' actually, if we negate friction), but I don't imagine you'd be needing that much force to get your dart out of someone.... What am I missing?

Sorry, I have not been on alot and must have missed your post Frize_the_cat.

Any ways If you still want the answer to your question, I did not but instead I put the nail set inside the round braid of a rope I had lying around and secured it with duct tape. the braid holds it in pretty good.  You could braid around it your self though.

And yes I would like that book if you could still get it.

Thank You

Anybody knows what happened to Fritz? He's not posting for half a year. I just hope that he didn't finally manage to NOT duck under his ropedart or MG  :-/.

Figure 8, Figure 8, Figure 8!!

Ha, I'm actually thinking that a Bow String knot would be mose effective here.
