i am a new member, having just signed up yesterday, but my brother siguy has been keeping me updated on the big things on the website. i am currently the youngest member on the site, at 8 years old.

anyways...back to bussiness:

i slung a mineral(most likely a hunk of mica) yesterday. my brother says that this is "effectively a rock" and that it doesn't make a difference, but i think it is kinda cool that i did so. anyways, hello everyone and stones away!

From a former science major, a rock is made up of minerals but a mineral cannot be made of rock. so you're right, mica is indeed a mineral! And welcome to the family!

I'm curious, kidslinger, mica is, I believe, a silica based mineral. It is found in loose layers. Does it shatter when it hits? ??? Flying slivers of silica everywhere could be pretty intimidating.
