Slingspot: Underbridge Troll Smashery

For target or penetration work a slinger needs to retrieve special ammo for reuse and contain ricochets. A “closed” area with a backstop is essential.  The sloping concrete revetment under bridges bounces ammo up to the underside of the bridge.  They then drop and roll to the base of the revetment (mostly) ready for collection and the next round of throws.  Much better than Easter Egg hunting all over a field.

It does take a special bridge for the optimal Smashery.  Many have busy roads or muddy streams that limit throwing “elbow room.”  I found that 6 lane bridges crossing a broad wetland or crossing a broad stream bed obliquely give plenty of working room.

Fortunately, the 2005 survey used by google.earth caught this bridge being built.
I put in the yellow 63 meter measuring bar (between red dots) to show where the base of the revetment runs.

The road bed put on the piers gives a roof for the smashery.

A nice setting for my Glandes of Steel 16 gauge punch through project:

Several  unexpected benefits of the Troll Smashery:

1. Showers of sparks show up nicely in dim light.

2. Revetment light shows through holes in targets.

3. Steel on Steel hits thunder in the reverb chamber.

4. Side light with dark background shows a
shimmering fine crystalline spray as granite or quartz
shatters back into dazzling dust.

Cool  8).  For now I just pray that ammo dosn't ricochet into (through) my neighbors house. A few close calls though.

are the gauge thicknesses of wire and sheet metal the same?  i mean like for instance would a 16 gauge wire be 2 mm thick, and a peice of sheet metal would also be 2 mm thick?  i am just wondering.

i'm not sure about that, but I know that there are at least two types of guage maurement: AWG and SWG then there are guns...

As usual in the nonmetric system there are all sorts of nutty gauges, different for wire vs sheet, different for various metals.  Apparently these systems started based on making it easy to figure taxes on transactions rather than measuring what you are doing.

So buy a set of metric mesuring tools and you get the same answer each time you measure.

Exactly!

Report in metric units and we all know what we're measuring.
