One of the delights of David vs. Goliath imagery is the artist’s adaptation of the story to contemporary costumes and customs of his culture. Here in ~1160 we have medieval shepherd vs. knight in full regalia.

The “pinch grip” is elegant.

The story timeless.

Such things, like showing ancient people in contemporary clothe was very common in the Middle Ages. There are many depictions of Virgin Mary in cotehardies and Tudor dresses.
This was done so that the people seeing it could relate to the depictions. This was important, as most were illiterate, so pictures that told stories were the best way to get the point across.
We do the same now in movies, updating classics into our generation( like War of the Worlds, Gods, I would give anything for a well done version done in period times, with period depictions).

Ditto that on sending these to Chris for the gallery with all the reference info for the wiki.

Best documented history of a manuscript I have seen.

Check out that closed grip and woven pouch on the detail.
