any ideas on simple ranged weapon i can make?

blowguns, throwing spikes, bolas, spear, sling, atlatl

made blowgun bolas slings i cant do any metalworl at the moment though

Blowguns are a lot of fun, and cheap.
Slings, oh yeah, gotta love slings.
Atlatls are still, along with slings, my favourite weapon.
spears are sort of boring. Very simple, though, and easy.
Atlatls and darts, through, are deceptively complex and challenging and so they remain fun for me to design and build.

throwing stars are easy to find  just look in the trash for those soil aireators and take it apart ull get like 24 of em

metal work isnt needed for any of those listed

I know, make a stick thingy! Get a stick, sharpen it at one edge, and poke stuff with it. XD Well, that just popped into my mind, so dunno if you really want to do that or not.

What you do is take a cross section of a good sized tree, and drill a hole in it across the axis about midway down and shove a handle into the hole. Voila! Instant wooden maul!

Why not make an armentum?? It's easy.  All it is is a javelin ( with or without a metal head. Wooden points work)  About 2 feet from the butt, drill a hole. Put a leather thong through it. Wrap the thong around the shaft, leaving room to hold the end.
 Grap the end and throw it overhand. Hold onto the end. As the thong unwinds, it starts the shaft spinning, making for a better throw. The tricky part is knowing when to let go of the end.

So, do you let go of the thong as the shaft starts flying through the air, or do you retain the leather in your hand?

 Yeah, you let go. This weapon goes back to the Pelopennisian Wars. (did I spell that right?) and was in use until Rome fell.
   The one I made flies dead on, but I have to work on distance
