Title: some slinging style videos
Post by Zorrro on Oct 6th, 2005 at 10:55am
I got some videos of diferent slinging styles at Istan  sling competition (Malaga, Spain) last weekend, they are .asf files ranging from 2 to 11 mb... but i can only watch them on the TV ,  cause it seems i need to download a special "codec" to visualize them with the media player program on my computer.
i'd like to share with you, but there's a 5 mb limit to send them to Chris... do i send only the ones <to 5 mb?

Start with those, and ask Chris how to post the others too. (We want all of them.)

I think that is the site I used to post my videos, and it was very easy!

I should be able to receive emails up to 20 Mb in size.  Send one at a time, an hopefully they will all go through.

Zorro, please send them to Chris as well! Sounds like you have some great stuff.

Just link the Html from the putfile site, using the url tags. I'll be happy to clean up the links once you have them up if you'd like.

Finally i uploaded 19  .asf files at:  http://www.putfile.com/zorrro
i think they can be viewed with windows media player (i did it with version 9 for W 98 millenium edition wich is the OS i'm running, theres version 10 for windows XP, also may be useful to download and install WM9Codecs9x.exe in order to play latest videofiles.
Tell me if it works (allow some time to download)and Enjoy!!   ;D
Feel free to copy and share all files

Thanks Zorro!

They take forever to load but are exciting to see.  Haven't seen them all yet but I've got to say I wish I were in the tournament!  We slinging.org should try to set up something similar!

Agreed Tint, organization is very simple, only need some netting and not much space to sling, even  it can be done slinging  against a net and recover all the projectiles if some are hand made and /or valuable.
The only downside is that traveling far is very expensive.
Need lot of time to download, but i hope you can also save to your HD so you caan watch  them over and over again.  ;D
You also can hear the music and people cheering.

AWESOME ZORRO!!!!

Thank you for all those videos!

Vicente needs to look at these videos and tell us if all the styles used would be legal for the Balearic competitions.

The style they call "Buckaroo" is the figure 8 style we talk about!

I didn't see anyone slinging very hard at all. I guess I was expecting to see some guys really whipping that target off the poles.

Great stuff. Everyone needs to veiw them!

How to get local copies from Putfile

My posts on pages 3,4 explain how. Putfile allows direct download of the file, they just hide the location behind their web-interface. You need to find the url for the video itself. Depending on your browser, you can figure this out a few different ways.

Those are cool Zorrro. I need some spanish guitar guys playing in the background to get me in the "zone" next sling outing methinks. Thanks for the hard work getting these posted!

Agreed David that they are throwing pretty lightly. I'm a bit more accurate with a moderate amount of power, but I've been hitting (or not hitting) mostly longer range targets my whole "career". The slings look really short as well - well under a meter, closer to 60cm?

So the *real* question is where are the videos of Zorrro slinging? Hope you did us proud! ;D

Well I can certainly think of places that putfile.com can be put :-)
The damn videos just buffer up to about 30% and then restart after about 30 mins I've yet to see anything resembling a recognisable video. Tried the stuff to get the video clips on the hardrive and it looks like putfile figured that out and blocked it.

So please get them somewhere else, I'd love to see competitive slinging.

Going to go see if I get any more luck on my winxp system.

Against my better judgement loaded vwindows media player and the codecs. No bloody difference - there's a lot to be said for old fashioned mpgs :-)

I can get the files fine using the "View Source" method. Click on one of the links and get the video to start downloading. In your browser select the "View Source" option to view the raw html. Now do a search for the string "asf" and look for the real URL for the video. An example is http://x402.putfile.com/videos/28002032670.asf

Cut and paste that back into the URL field of the brower and it should download as a normal file would and you can save it.

I use mozilla but I cant see it not working for IE or something else.

thanks wrenn.
can you or anyone else tell me why it is that after i find the url and enter it, that it atomaticly downloads it. i did, of coarse, have to specify where to put it. but still just curious.

sorry matthias i didn't notice yours till afterwards. i'll try yours next time :)

Matthias, few of the participants slinged at full power  videos swhow the most skilled participants, there were a lso a lot of newbies and kids.
Slings are 60 to 100 cms
I did my 2 rounds of 3 stones and missed them all  ::)
I always sling at full power, so is  dificult to get accurate.  i'll ask my brother or my wife to film me a video so you can see me ;D

i call it Buckaroo (cowboy) cause that style was mainly used by cow shepards, overhead is more common on goat and sheep shepards

Zorro, Do you know if that Buckaroo style is legal in the Balear competitions?

They actually release at the end of the second revolution don't they?

I do not think that these slingers did follow those rules.
I saw one use what I would call an underhand style in which he did use no wind-up at all. The stone came up and away.

Willeke

PS, Thanks Zorrro, I did really like to see these videos.

I particularly enjoyed one fellow, grey hair and a blue shirt, he missed twice using a side-arm style and then just chucked one underhand, no spins, he just drew the sling back and then whipped it forward -- followed by the clink of the rock hitting the target.  Is that the fellow you are talking about, Willeke?

Title: Re:  some slinging style videos

At Istan there were no rules, you can sling with any kind of sling (lenght, materials etc) and bring your own projectiles, The only rule  is if you give it one spin and misfires it counts as a shooting. even you don't need to have a sling of your own, participants and organization lend you one if you want to try   ;D
As far as  i can recall balearic federation has  some restrictions in the materials and type of sling, got to check the rules to see  what they say about slinging style.

That's the way I like it!  No rules, just hit the target! ;D
