Title: Musicians!
Post by Matt_C on Aug 2nd, 2005 at 3:01pm
So what instruments do you play and in what genres?
I play eletric and acousitc bass in anything from jazz to rock to metal.
Diatonic harmonica in blues and country music.
Mandolin in traditional Greek and Italian music, as well as country, blues and classical.

I also "play" the recorder... nothing like a sopranino to raise the hairs on the backs of peoples necks.

I play Trombone and euphonium...and some very bad bass.

I play Jazz, blues, swing, bigband and classical, almost every genre actually, even some trombone metal...all of the usual tromboney stuff.

I played in a Jazz band for a number of years, performed for community events, weddings, stuff like that. My trombone has been sitting in storage for a year or so, and my little cousins broke my bass. Have been looking for an excuse to dig it out...I haven't had a chance to get in a band or even busk (did that for a while)

Thats my story.

I play a bit of guitar.  I usually play chords to songs by U2 and sing with a group of friends.

I'll try to play anything I can get my hands on... Currently those are a piano, a couple of guitars, two (piano) accordions, a ukulele, a bunch of homemade flutes, a chromatic harmonica, a bagpipe chanter, a didge (instrument?), a little drum... I used to have a steel drum (Steel Pan Tuning - this guys is my hero, amazing resource!). I'd like to be able to play fisherman shanty fiddle, but haven't been able to tolerate the sounds I make. I'd *really* like a big low register wooden pipe organ... along similar lines I want to try to make a big contrabass recorder one day.

For all that, I'm not particularily musical. I'm technically proficient on piano, and can muddle along with the rest. The flutes and the accordion get the most attention these days with my semi-nomadic lifestyle.

I seem to gravitate toward minor-key folk/ethnic traditional music when I play. Listening is a whole differnet story!

Ocarinas, ocarinas, ocarinas, and...well...ocarinas. I've got a mandolin almost made(from a kit), but I'm too lazy to polish it  :-[.

The harmonica is a cool instrument. If you play one you have an instant excuse for poor personal hygiene or acting weird :D
