Title: ERC ELB/OsageNocks
Post by Johnny on Mar 13th, 2005 at 4:34pm
Here is another ERC ELB with Osage nocks. 73 inches long, 75#@28inches. Has a nasty knot on the upper limb, so far so good! No snap, crackle, pop and my Fingers are crossed! Very smooth draw with a flat and speedy cast. I wish I had a chrony to measure the speed. I'm convinced my ELBs shoot faster than all my flatbows. Hope you folks like it!

Nice work Johnny!

what's the range of the arrows?

I just saw a rerun of the movie "Robin Hood: the prince of thieves" the other night.  Nice movie, bows look similar to the ones you make.

I will do some range testing later. I need to make some arrows around 500 grains. The ones I've been using are over 600 grains. A little on the heavy side! Thanks for the comments.

Making a bow takes time, but more often than not costs no money at all.
 Once again, brilliant bow.

Ist there to much sapwood on the back of the bow? But the tiller is great . How heavy is it and wath s it draw length?

With Eastern Red Cedar, you can make a bow out of either the sapwood, heartwood or a combination, it doesn't matter.

Also, lots of sapwood in a bow can be a very good thing.  Some bowyers have found that having as much as a third or half the width of the bow as sapwood (in a yew bow) can make the bow much more powerful than a bow of the same thickness made almost entirely of heartwood, with a tiny layer of sapwood on the back.
