Title: Advice for a new slinger.
Post by ZaQ on Jun 21st, 2004 at 6:09pm
I actually just started slinging today.  Mine is made from an old sock and 550 parachute cord.  I spent about 3 hours hurling rocks into a field behind my house.  It was alot of fun but it seems that on my release the pouch holds on to the rock a little bit causing a delay in the release.  Does anyone have any advice that could help me out?

Get a stiffer pouch.

A pouch that does not open quickly enough or holds the stone any other way not only causes a late release, but if it does not release, the stone will whip around and hit you.  This is BAD!

See my thread "New Sling Style" http://www.slinging.org/forum2/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=1;action=display;num=1087064741

and the thread "Stiff vs Pliable Pockets" http://www.slinging.org/forum2/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=1;action=display;num=1085621362

These will give you some info on the pouches.  Just be sure that whatever you use releases the stone when you want to.
