What you beginners and young folks need to know early is that slinging is an ancient art, and it still takes the ancient way of learning: PRACTICE! This art does not fit in well with our modern day, microwave, dive-up-to-the-window, I want it now mentality. Matt, go to the articles section and watch the videos. That will help alot. As much as you can, SLING, SLING, SLING!!! Repetition is the mother of learning.

Also, don't try to use "advanced" shots, I mean, use the basic underhand and overhand, not the Greek or other shots, and when you know how to use them perfectly, you can change your shot.

How good is your sling?  Might be the sling, not you.  Also, how long is the sling?  You might have made it too long or too short?  How are you slinging it?  I find underarm the easiest.  For power, you don't want to rotate your whole arm.  It should be a limited motion, with a snap of the wrist at the end to give it some power.

If you want some pointers on a great design, you should check out "Making a simple sling: An illustrated guide" in the articles section.   It's always worked out great for me.

You might want to try some heavier ammo too, and see how he likes that feel.  Sometimes the extra weight makes the sling easier to feel and release at the right time.
