Title: Failed at slinging today! Post by bandit111964 on Aug 8th, 2026 at 8:56pm
Had hope I might make 65 yard field goals today, but came up a little short.

Oh, well, that almost happened!
Why don't you use either an underhand or a sideways throw for longer distances? My shoulder joint feels more natural throwing from these planes at a high upward angle than throwing from the overhand. |

You are right, pocket.
My “spinning” style has more distance than my figure 8. I typically use Byzantine for distance. The problem is accuracy. My Figure 8 is the only throw that has distance AND accuracy. I just can’t get near the goal posts with Byzantine where the majority of Figure 8 throws are between the uprights. For reference, I am using high school goal posts with the uprights 23 feet, 4 inches wide. According to google, at a distance of 65 yards away, the goal posts appears ~6.87 degrees wide, or about the size of a small steering wheel at held at arm's length. So you can see, it is a fun challenge throwing for distance and accuracy at the same time! |

Oh,BTW.
I would really like to use soccer goals as targets. They are lower in height so that would be extra challenging to throw FAR and LOW. Problem is the nets have such big holes they don’t stop the tennis balls. And my eyes are bad that from a distance I can’t tell if the ball is in the net or not. But might try soccer goals one day. It is on the list. |

We have a large hill next to the school, from which children go sledding in winter. And in physical education classes, my children and I used to throw tennis balls into the slide for safety. Thus, it was not necessary to run after the balls every time, as they simply rolled down by themselves)). Perhaps if you have such a slope nearby, it would be good for range training to throw like that. Another advantage is that you can install two poles on top and stretch a bright ribbon between them. It would make an excellent and simple target. As the throw range increases..the target can be moved higher and higher.
