Title: The final of the tournament in the set system
Post by Snow Serg on Jul 15th, 2026 at 7:44am
Hello friends! I want to share a short video from our tournament that we held in 2022. He passed through the usual standard targets. 120 Quadro+ 50 Diana. We had two groups of athletes in qualifying. The first is the beginners who came to the tournament for the first time and they had small distances of 8 and 10 meters. The second group consists of athletes who have already had some throwing experience. The second group had distances of 13 and 20 meters. Everyone qualified first, and based on the result of the qualification, the top 4 qualified for the finals.

The video shows the final match.
The rules of the final: Alternative shooting. Athletes take turns throwing 1 throw each. There are 5 balls in the series. The distance is 13 meters. The target of the Balearic Sling Throwing Federation. Square-"Quadro"-120x120 cm. In the center of the "Diana" is a circle of 50 cm. in diameter. Getting into the "Quadro" -1 point, into the "Diana" -2 points. The winner of the sparring gets -2 points. A draw is 1 point, a loss is 0 points. The victory is awarded based on the results of sparring sessions-to the one who can score 6 points faster.

I tried to make a visual account on the video so that it would not depend on the speaker's text and its translation, and it was clear how the calculation was going. I hope the scheme of the finals is clear to everyone. This is how archery competitions usually take place. Try using this system in your tournaments, I'm sure it will be very exciting. Duels according to this scheme are interesting for both athletes and spectators.

Yes, this is a great system! It levels the playing field with more throws for the finalists to even out variance.

And like you said, very exciting for competitors and spectators alike since you know the outcome as it is happening instead of tallying up the scores for everyone long after all the throwing is finished.

That looks like a great game to try! :thumb:

I do wonder why the guy on the left rotates the sling, only to stop it and throw Byzantine.  It's obviously part of his routine, and that's fine.  I just don't really understand why.

With such preliminary rotations, it is more convenient for me to dynamically reach the starting point of the movement for the "Byzantine Throw". If I just swing, then the starting point of the ball's movement shifts more. It's hard for me to explain it in text, but this way my accuracy is higher than the usual Byzantine throw when I just pull my hand back :)

I didn't even recognize you for some reason.  ;D

And yes, 100%!  Whatever helps with repeatability and consistency, do it.  Definitely a unique windup.

Yes, I understand you, this is the archive for 2022..Now I'm throwing in a different way, and time doesn't spare us either.

This year, I'm trying this version of this technique with thiele guam. There is a difference from Byzantium in the plane of the backswing. The ball does not go horizontally backwards, but vertically, and at this point the elbow changes the plane of the throw exit. I'm not sure if auto-translation will be clear, but somehow :)
