Title: 10% slinging, 90% looking for my rock.

Hi! New to the forum and new to slinging, but I'm excited to slowly improve at yet another hobby (can't have too many).
When I was a kid, I saw Clan of the Cave Bear and immediately tried to make my own sling. I was obsessed and  spent hours trying to get it right. I ended up whipping myself a lot, breaking something, and gave up after several frustrating weeks. Fast forward 30 years: I stumbled upon a YouTube video of a guy absolutely smashing stones with a sling, and the memories came flooding back.

This time around, I made another sling (shamelessly borrowing the design from Pan Slings) and it actually works! I am still absolutely terrible at it, but having a blast.

There's something so deeply satisfying about these primal activities. I get that same weird, subconscious connection to our ancestors when I'm slinging as I do when chopping wood, making friction fires, spearfishing, foraging, etc...

Anyway, I found this forum three days ago and just wanted to say hi. I'm really looking forward to learning from all of you!

Welcome! Yes, there's definitely a special connection with those sorts of activities that is hard to replicate elsewhere. Enjoy!

Welcome from Pennsylvania, USA!

Our stories of getting into slinging are pretty similar.  My mom gave me a copy of Clan of the Cave Bear because she liked it so much.  After reading it I was so excited to try out slinging.  But (no surprise) I was terrible, and ended up dropping it for a long time.  I gave it another try around 8 or 9 years later and that time it stuck.

We all shamelessly borrow other peoples' designs. Hard not to for something that is so simple that has also been around for 10's of thousands of years!! (and that is incredibly simple)
