Title: Hello from Wisconsin!

Hey fellow slingers! Greetings from Wisconsin USA.

I've been slinging for a month or so now, making pretty good progress if I do say so myself. Couldn't keep reading without needing to share some thoughts.

I've been learning Greek underhand/sidearm as well as overhand (figure 8). Been having a blast throwing foam balls at trees in the park. Wild how fast you can wear down a dirt patch in the grass!

I miss classic internet forums! This is such a nostalgia hit for me.

Welcome! Yes, those grassy patches will quickly turn to muddy ones without some gravel or pavers there to cover the spots where you step.

Agreed on the forum style here, I much prefer it to the newer style on reddit or other social media.

Enjoy!

This drives me nuts.  I used to lay down a big rubber mat when the yard was wet, so I would't make a mud pit.  But I eventually just started using it all the time so I stop tearing up the yard when slinging.  A couple sessions and the grass is gone. :(

Put in a couple of pavers! I used gravel for a bit but even that was annoying as I had to keep releveling it on a regular basis as my step compressed it down.

A couple 12x12 pavers set into the dirt have lasted me more than a year without any major movement or maintenance. They're usually about a buck apiece at home depot and even helped me straighten out my throw/step as well since I put them in a straight line.

Thanks everyone! I'd love to put down some pavers, but I think the Parks Department would frown on that. I will need to distribute my practice across all the parks.

Or, more likely, people will just have to wonder at the weird dirt circles, 15 and 25 yards away from trees.
