The YouTube algorithm has started pushing my video 'How to make and use the staff sling (fustibalus)' and is has gained 50,000 views in the last few days, going past 100,000 this morning.

With nearly 200k views as well on my 'How to sling like a Balearic slinger' and the 1.2 million on 'Balearic slinger at Sa Pobla, Mallorca', this shows that slinging content can reach a lot of people.

Based on the comments, a lot of people are coming via video gaming content and they have not seen real world slinging before. The most common theme is 'Wow, I have got to try this!' which I am really pleased about.

All my successful videos had been up for a while gaining slow but steady views until suddenly they spiked up massively. I have no idea what causes this, it is all part of the inscrutable algorithm.

If you want to get into making videos then I would absolutely recommend it. Learn the principles of editing like B-roll, J-cuts and the like. Most of my videos were shot on a mobile phone. Shotcut is a great tool for video editing and will do everything we need it to.

Next stop, Hollywood  8-)  ;D

Greetings and thanks,  all hail the Morningstar .

Seriously, it has tickled me pink seeing newbies arrive and posting a link to DM videos citing that as being their introduction to slinging.

David, your deadpan yet authorititive and friendly style is a credit to you and sod Hollyweird

"Aww man, you just gotta lose the hat,  get a haircut and wear something bright"

But and also, thanks for the shotcut tip. It looks like just what I have been seeking.

Cheers

that is very impressive, congratulations

The community as a whole is definitely growing on social media. That’s partly it but your content is for sure some of the best on YouTube, with competition coverage and tutorials I know I’ve watched your videos a lot over the years.

Congratulations

This is really fantastic David!

Do you have any videos in particular you're working on now?

I'm going to shoot a load of footage at the International in a few days and see what I can make from it.

That's so cool David. Getting more people into slinging is what we need! Weirdly I've found that staff sling videos always do much better than my regular slinging videos. I think it might be "staff" being in the titles so it gets shared to a wider audience.

Awesome!  I'm looking forward to that.

Ok between Kick Channing and Morningstar I want to be well informed on this year’s competition.

     Congratulations.  Well deserved.

David, its about time! I've always liked your content and I'm glad it's getting some traffic and recognition!

Nice one dude.
You've been posting for around 10 years I think.
About time you started getting some recognition out of it :thumb:

And presumably money as well. :-)

I'm not at the International after all, I got ill yesterday so I couldnt fly. Its probably just a cold but there was no way I could rock up to the airport in the state I'm in right now. Its going to be an great event too, with lots of new slingers :(

Sorry to hear that.  Of all the times for a cold to hit...

What a terrible turn of events :(

Hopefully you can bask in your 200k views instead.
