I grew up with my slingshot and became very proficient with it.  I probably got into more mischief with it as a kid than anything else.  I have been interested in trying a sling, not for mischief, for a while now.  I tried to buy one online but I have not found a site yet other than the biblical replica sites.  I want to make my own eventually but I wanted to have a model to work from first.  I am in Kingsville, TX if any guys are down here that hold sling making classes.  LOL.  I look forward to spending time on this site and seeing what all there is to learn about slinging.

Making slings can be quite simple. Some slings can be very elaborately braided and quite beautiful but a simple seatbelt sling can be made in well under 1/2 an hour and will be just as functional. Have a look at the FAQ section at he top of General Discussion, you'll find many tutorials for all sorts of slings.

  I was wondering how long the cord was on both sides of the seat belt.  Also about making the loop.  For the wrist or the finger?  What about the other side?  Do you use a bead or just tie a knot?

I am new here too. The big surprise is how fast and easy many of the slings are to make so you can try many different ways with little time or cost.
A quick answer to your questions:
Length varies but mine, when finished, hang from the hand to the top of the ankle.
Most are finger loops.
Most tie knots.
Its so easy to add your own taste and style.
