Title: What's Your Favorite Pizza Post by Rat Man on Oct 1st, 2010 at 1:45pm
I considered doing this thread as another poll, but there are so many varieties of pizza that I could never come close to including them in the available space. So what's your favorite pizza?

Greasy Sicilian-style deep-dish, baked in an iron skillet. Or Neapolitan-style Margherita. Both different, both delicious.

We have a place called Round Table around here. Never heard of it until I came to Cali. It is quite expensive but by far the best I've tasted.

I like a thin crust, Neapolitan style "New York" pizza.
I've always loved pepperoni and mushroom on a pizza. I'd have to say that's my "favorite." But I also love a lot of the "specialty" or "gourmet" pizza that's around these days. "White pizza," with ricotta and mozzarella plus garlic and broccoli, is also a favorite of mine. |

My all time favorite is thin crust, pepperoni and mushrooms.
All pizzas are good. Hawaiian, meat lovers are others I like. |

I agree with Rockman.. all pizzas are good. My favorites are Sicilian with pepperoni and mushrooms or a good white pizza, very heavy on the garlic, with some broccoli. For me the more anchovies the better.

I've tried pizza with anchovies twice in my life, thinking for some reason that I might like it. Both times, I didn't. Tasted like bad cat food.

I guess I would have to say haiwaiian, but I don't really follow the types I just know what I like on them. My favorite ingredients would be hamburger, pineapple and especially black olives.

Recently, someone at work treated my office to some "pizza" from Papa John's.
I put the word in quotes because in my opinion, that bland crap really doesn't qualify as pizza. When I had finished eating a slice, I actually found myself thinking that I would rather have not even eaten it. I wasn't even happy for having obtained the free caloric energy. So, as far as I'm concerned, yes, some pizza can be so bad, so lame, that it is not anywhere close to "good" or "delicious" just for the sake of being pizza. Also, there were numerous pizza places in Albany, NY, when I was in college there. Many were good, and a few not-so-good. I remember that my RA freshman year ordered from this one place when we had events on our hall, and their pizza was made on dough that was like a kitchen sponge. It SUCKED. The good places were Jeff's Pizza (on Madison Ave.) and Mild Wally's (on Quail St.). Mild Wally's was where I first had cold cheese as a topping. It began life as "Student-Run Pizza," and soon had a naming contest. Suggested names were tacked to a wall, written on paper plates. Someone won with the name suggestion "Mild Wally's." One suggestion was, "You're Drunk, We're Open." (They were indeed open until quite late.) That ended up being on the obverse of their matchbooks, actually. |

Today I had Pear, Caramelized Onion, Walnut and Gorgonzola on a thin crust with Mozzarella and Field Greens (AKA Ditch Weeds) with Blue Cheese. ... pretty intense flavors ... but I'm not going there again (Where's The Beef). The cheese overpowered all the rest of the toppings.

I stand firm about Papa John's "pizza." It is to pizza what McDonald's milkshakes are to milkshakes, ok? Yes, it's edible. But for what it is, it just barely qualifies, and most of what else is out there is far superior, especially if you get it from an independent maker instead of a chain. |

Well, yes, gorgonzola is certainly a cheese with the potential to do that! I enjoy it on a salad very much. |

I had to look it up to see that it's a seafood sauce. That would be an awesome pizza. I hope frutti di mare pizza isn't just an Iceland thing. |

There's a foodie website called Chowhound. In the Los Angeles board there are occasional posts from New Yorkers complaining that they can't get "their" style pizza here. Or asking where they could get some. (One guy replied with a Delta flight number, I guess he meant "go home".)
Anyhow, there are quite a few people who wouldn't agree that all pizza is good. |

Funny, I deliver pizza. I shan't say for who. Someone did complain about them though. I won't say it's stellar pizza if you're used to independent pizzas. It is not however crap. They actually use fresh ingredients and take great care that the dough is fresh. While it is a chain pizza, it's adequately tasty. Comparing it to an independent pizza place really isn't fair I mean there's no real comparison to fast food pizza and properly crafted pizza. I would much rather eat a burger formed by hand and grilled, then served on bun that was baked at the premises than a mass produced by some kid who hates his job and doesn't put any passion into a burger. Same goes with pizza.
Hmm, I rambled a bit. Still PJ's pizza is a step up from crap. I like it best out of all the chain pizzas. Especially their thin crusts. With onion, bacon and ham. Quite tasty to me. Quote:
Seems like that would have been fine with just the blue cheese. All that sweet though, I'd want a really sharp cheddar, or some gruyere. |

The only way I will eat anchovies is if they're stuffed into olives. So very tasty...
that reminds me, I need to place an order with this one spanish foods store. I developed a taste for jamon serrano and anchovy stuffed olives when my dad was stationed in Spain and get cravings every so often. |

Ever had those queen olives that are stuffed with cloves of garlic? They come in jars around here and are quite expensive for the few that you get in the jar. |

Yeah, they are tasty but expensive. Speaking of tasty but expensive olives, have you had blue cheese stuffed ones?
