Title: Latest and Greatest
Post by NavyDT on Sep 28th, 2010 at 10:38pm
Hello all.

I took Rat Mans advice and made another sling. after making my last slings i found some real areas that i did not like about them. i began analyzing why i liked the rock man and why it performed so much better than the rest. i think i had a few things wrong.

i need a heaver sling to help resist the deceleration imposed by wind resistance.  i also found that my previous pockets were too wide and not long enough. the rock man had alot of extra weight in the sling because of the braiding, whippings, and the pouches. the way you weave the pouches added alot of extra weight while keeping the overall footprint of the sling aerodynamic enough. i don't know this could all still be just bull$h!t logic to try to explain the poor performance of my other slings.

i felt like my skills had improved enough to go the extra mile on this project. i added a replaceable cracker just for fun, so i could pretend i was Brian Grubbs as per the way his figure 8 sounds like he is whipping a gaggle of slaves. :D

i know that Ratman was saying that his TS3 design was the way to go but i wanted to try something slightly wider. i think this is peaceful Jeffery's design AKA the PJ sling.

anyways, up for critique

Well, I'm flattered and humbled every time I learn of someone else making a PJ sling. ...
Yours looks excellent! You're quite the badass prodigy slingmaker, it seems! A very quick study! :)

By the time my Aussie pouches get there they'll be redundant; and yes, I have mailed them several days ago.

That's an excellent pj, NavyDT.  I may have mentioned this before, but just like ilpc, I'm a huge fan of pj slings and always have a few around here.  There are a lot of advantages to a pj sling. Here's one I made from Jute a while ago:

i hate to say thanks to everyones kind words. well i got to throw with it for about an hour. i had gutted the weave string to allow me to get a more uniform smooth weave but after throwing for a while the weave was getting scrunched up at the release end. i think for my next one i might try only taking out 2 of the 7 threads, or 3.

thanks again everyone for your kind words!

You could pack it as tight as possible and leave a little excess weft on both ends, then swing it around your head in a circle to scrunch it up, weave some more, and repeat.

i could have packed it tighter, but the problem then becomes the fact that it will not readily embrace the stone, it would be so tight there wouldn't be enough play for it to cup anything.. i will work on another solution :P

trust me, you don't have to worry about it getting too stiff.

That he did, I managed to make one that works. That says a lot about the tutorial, let me tell ya!

While I am happy with the tutorial, I do wanna say that I'm
just jesting when I boast like that.  :D
It's supposed to be "exaggerated," but I don't know if that comes across.

Still, it's very gratifying when I read that people are so happy with PJ slings!
When they say stuff like "I'm a huge fan of PJ slings," and "I use them
exclusively," (! :o  !) it makes me feel amazingly good!  :D

I'm fairly confident that you're selling your abilities short; but that sounds like a compliment, so thank you. :)
