Title: What's your favorite beverage?
Post by little on Sep 27th, 2010 at 8:56pm
What do you like to drink?  Me for a long time I was a hardcore tea-drinker,  then along came coffee,  not too long ago when I 1st started I used to drink the whole pot,  nowadays I usually take about 1-3 cups a day,  though usually I love to drink tea once in a while,  while coffee is jittery,  tea is like a calming drug making you relax.  So I made a list above,  and feel free to make suggestions as to what else I can add

I like coffee, and choose to drink it because I like the taste. But tea is hands down my favorite drink,  especially when coffee is too much cafeine. I don't like sodas nearly as much as tea, and beer... I just don't like what it does to me.

[edit]Little, don't you thinks you should occasionally post in the "other topics" thread?[/edit]

You forgot to add a Yerba mate option in the poll.  ;)

I've liked tea my whole life and hated coffee. Last Winter, I tried yerba mate and liked it as well. Lately coffee has really grown on me. At first I couldn't drink it unless it had a lot of sugar in it. But lately I've been enjoying it black and unsweetened. (I drink tea and mate unsweetened as well.)

I love good ol' fashioned ice water. That must be my favorite.

But I also am crazy about Pepsi and other carbonated soft drinks.

When I was a waiter at TGI Fridays, I found myself drinking an astounding amount of cola from the service bar (if I hadn't, the running around would've dehydrated me). So I made the decision to try plain old seltzer, and fell in love with it. I'll drink it plain, but it's always better with a squeeze of lime if some is around.

My favorite drink is seltzer water so I checked other.  It satisfies me like a soda would but it doesn't have all of that sugar, artificial colors, flavors, etc.. it's just water with bubbles.  I also checked milk.  Though it's just my wife, the pets, and I living here we go through three or four gallons a week.  We also like a lot of coffee.  I gave up drinking alcoholic beverages about twenty years ago.  I've never had yerba. I'm OK with tea, but black tea turns my stomach for some reason.  I can drink all of the green tea I want to with no ill effects.

My favorite is water.  Around here the tap water is clean and delicious, so it`s an easy choise.  Other favorites is tea, coffee and cola.
I`ll drink a little beer now and then, and wine with those special meals.

If from the standpoint of sheer volume, I'd have to say coffee.... I drink a LOT of coffee.

However, I am fond of beer.   By which I mean actual beer rather than the thin, watery swill that so many folks drink.
My kids got me a "beer of the month" club membership for Xmas, and I get six samples from one microbrewery or another every month.   All have been quite good so far!

Tea is an easy favorite, with Coffee a distant second. I largely stick to Arabic teas, the English have nothing on them.

I have never been a fan of tea or coffee.  I will occasionally have them, though.  I stay pretty far away from iced tea, though.  Never could stand the stuff, but will drink it if there's nothing else available.

As for tea, what I really prefer is tea that's not made from tea, i.e. herbal tea.  My favorite lately is Bigelow's "Mint Medley" herbal tea.  It's pretty much peppermint and spearmint.  All natural, caffeine free.

I do also enjoy fruit juices a lot (orange, pineapple, grapefruit, apple, grape, etc.).  There's barely a fruit juice I don't like.  And I do like milk, too.

my question to yall is how you drink that bigelow whatchamacallit. it's not that good, very little flavor but some fragrance, and it comes in a sack of water resistant toilet paper.

Loose Black Tea from the Assam region (perfect tea growning weather), fresh Bergamot zest, and brewed at the correct temperature for the correct ammount of time.

This type of thing makes me actually glad to not be a fan of tea.
The idea of needing my beverage to be prepared in such a picayune fashion -- or else it won't be satisfying to me -- is something that I would find frustrating.  I prefer being able to go straight for a glass of plain water, or seltzer, or Pepsi -- each of which will for the most part taste the same no matter where you go (particularly the last two, if served in bottles or cans).

It seems like every other time I hear someone drinking coffee or tea (especially coffee), they complain about it being poorly done and not pleasant to them.  Who needs that?

It's like cooking:Cheap food is usually homogenized and more bland, but I like it. The rare occasions when I get to actually cook a big meal and go all out are that much better for all the Big Macs I ate in between though. Bigelow is good tea, but there's good tea and good tea.

The first and only time I ever had hard cider was when I spent a semester in England during college.
I think I had Strongbow, and possibly Scrumpy Jack. Those are the two names I remember, anyway.

It tasted good, I suppose, but I don't think I could drink enough to get drunk on it before the sweetness of it was too much.

Is the homemade kind similar to the canned kind?

One thing I ended up liking a lot from England was Newcastle Brown Ale. Probably my favorite beer.

Coffee in the morning and beer or wine in the evening. Water the rest of the day.

I have tried, at times, to enjoy wine. It never works out, though. I just do not like the taste. It's like, why ruin delicious grape juice by letting it ferment?! I honestly don't understand how so many people say they like it.

Hey another home brewer, yeah I also make hard cider (fizzy, bottle fermentation), besides the allready mentioned mead. Soon I am gonna start another batch black cider, apple and crowberries, last one turned out really good, one of my best concoctions yet.

I agree PJ, the commercial stuff is way to sweet, my home made ciders are pretty dry. Itīs even worse with mead; that store bought stuff is cloyingly sweet, like liqueur. Itīs like with wine; no one expects red wine to taste and be sweet like grape juice. Mead should not taste like honey, it should taste like fermented honey.

Yeah, drying (and smoking) meat is on a long "to do before I die" list....

I agree with you PJ about store brand ciders.....way to sweet.....i use a dry yeast so i get a nice flavor .
and i also spike it with sugar to boost the proof...lol :o
and yes i do make my own jerky  ;)

I havenīt, and I (hazily) remember reading some advice on line against using cranberries in fermentation, something about green gummy stuff it produces, donīt know if this also goes for cranberry juice..
The other reason I havenīt tried it is that those berries donīt grow here, and blue- and crowberries do, and they are very good in home made wines.

I'm not an expert.. this is just a thought I had.  Cranberries are very high in ascorbic acid, like lemons.  Would they ferment well?
