Title: Adjustable pouch sling (Ver 2.0 tutorial is up) Post by A Step on Sep 27th, 2010 at 12:42am
I was wondering if anyone has ever messed with this idea. It's a really simple balearic type using two short noose knots and two overhand knots.
I'm still perfecting the concept, but it really works with regular and small tennis balls, golf balls, racket balls, and egg sinkers without changing pocket size from shot to shot. If there is any interest I'll work up a tutorial with some pictures. By the way I have many braided slings jute, hemp, and 550 to get rid of if anyone is interested (free or trade for 550 cord). |

Sounds interesting but a photo would probably be sufficient for a start.

Here's some pictures, I hope. If they're too big, would someone help me to resize them?
All you have to do is slide the knots apart to make the pouch bigger or pull the long strings apart to make the pouch smaller. |

I would have to see how well they work but the design seems solid.

That is an idea that resurfaces from time to time ... looks like you have a good series of photos to go with your adjustable sling
There is always a place for a well done tutorial. #210 of 250 |

Use this information at your own risk. This type of sling has only been tried and used with parachute cord, use naturals at your own risk. I normally use two 5 foot sections of cord to make these it will produce one that measures about 45 inches from the center of pocket. The white string is the string the knot will be sliding along. If anyone has anything to add to the design or questions please feel free to speak up. I compared this knot to a noose earlier, it is not. There is a version however that uses a noose to make the pocket. My apologies for the confusion.
These pics should be a little easier to see using black and white string. Use the end that you just passed through the loop to tie the last knot for that side. Repeat the process for the other side using the sliding string to tie the knot and add your choice of loop and stopper knot. Trim and burn all loose ends and you're done. MOST of all make certain your knots are tight and you seat your projectile firmly before you sling it. As always your mileage may vary and questions are welcome. |

I used this sling alot today, slinging baseballs, tennis balls, racket balls, and golf balls without problems. You just have to get the pocket the right size.
Now for the problems, ammo smaller than 1 inch and lighter than a golf ball do not work to my satisfaction. I'm sure my skills are not up to par (major factor). This can be solved by using lighter weight string and/or reducing the number of loops to one in the primary knot. Stay safe then have fun. |

Thank you. Can you do a close up of how you tie the knot? Bill

Changed out the pictures out. Hope this helps.
Tied a new design to try out it's a little easier to tie only two knots to form the pocket. Going to test it tomorrow. |

I was hoping some folks might like these. I like slinging different size ammo, the only problem is you have to use the correct sling for the correct ammo. Maybe this will solve the problem, or at least give someone a good idea for a better design.
I tested the new one today, it is picky about the knot tightness. Once you do achieve the correct pressure you've got it whipped, it will hold size as well as the other one. The same ammo was used baseballs, tennis balls, racket balls and golf balls. The 1.25" hi bounce balls and 3 oz egg sinkers stayed in the newer design better than the one in the tutorial. If there is any one interested in the new one, learn to tie a TIGHT noose first then apply it the same way as in the tutorial except without the secondary knot. Durability is still up for study. If anyone has issues please share them with everyone. By the way I've had the best luck with a 36" measured from the center of the pocket to the trigger knot. It sure is nice to have a forum like this. Thank you to those who contributed before and good luck to those that are just starting. Sling safe |
