this is my lastest project :)

it turned out better than i expected. i almost dont wanna put it in a handle .

but all i have to do now is make a handle. it shouldnt be to hard to whittle it down after i find a good peice of wood

wellllll.. i did try pecking lol and i gave up quick so i used my bench grinder to rough out the shape and to get my edge at an angle .but 75% of it was done by grinding it on other round and flat rocks i found at the river and then i used sandpaper. while i sat around and watched tv i would be sanding it and after 2 days its pretty darn slick.

i just got back from the woods and i got a good section of dogwood for the handle.
as hard and dense as it is itll take me awhile but itll be worth it

what do you have on your bench grinder? is it the standard pumice wheel that comes with it, or something else?

the one i used for this was a wheel thats for sharpening tools. its a lot finer than the standerd wheels

hmmmm. is it a six inch, 8 inch? how long on the grinder before you had it shaped?

the celts almost 6 inchs and its 2 and a half on the wide end.
it took.. maybe 45 mins of grinding untill i was satisfied. and after that it had flat places all over it from the wheel but the rocks i ground the celt on took alll that out. :)

hmm any ideas on how i should cut the hole in the handle? i wanna get that started just incase i mess it up i wont have the whole thing finished

what i usually do is trace out the size of the opening i want and then drill several small holes around the inside edge of that trace through to the other side. then, either chisel it out or thread my coping saw blade in there and saw it out. the chisel is the easiest way i think. then finish with a rasp and file.

thats what i did. i still have a lot to remove with my carving chisels but atleast i know what to do now

thanks :) its dogwood, its a real light colored wood so i used a torch to give it some color
