Mr Lloyd was posting on the Newcastle University server, where he was an employee. He made some 'humourous' comments about vegetarians, and a Vegetarian Protest Group (yes, really!) complained.

He has had all of his email and internet access rights stripped from him and the website is down

Well, that's sad. Only one thing left to do in that case....

Get them back up on another server, invest a lot of money. Come back thrice as strong. Rope the VPG into court cases and take all of their money :)

Luckily I sent a intrested newbie links to his webpages last week.
Not so lucky in that I had saved several of his webpages on my now extinct and Imploded home system.
I do how ever have his slinging webpages as hard copy in my slinging binder
All I Can do is wish that he gets back online soon and may the vegans find beef in thier tofu\

A bunch of vegans got Lloyd fired?  That is a shame.

EDIT, LATER: OK, OK, I do not know that he got fired.  I just inferred that if he lost his email and web privileges, he lost his job too.  But I do not KNOW that, so don't anybody go getting overly steamed at the vegans.

Stir-frying them will suffice...  ;D

I hope that Lloyd has backups of his stuff.  Perhaps he can set up again with another internet provider.  This is perhaps what he should have done in the first place; they would not have been able to do this were his stuff in his "own" (read, hired with his own money) place instead of in his employer's place.  Something for the rest of us to think about...

Lloyd had a link to Slinging.org on his slinging page.  Is there a chance he is actually a member here?

That's really upsetting to me.  Self-righteous <expletive deleted>... I've met some vegans in my time, and my experience with them only makes this story more painful to read.  Get a life, people (the mentioned vegan group, not slingers :P )

If anyone wants the 2 slinging pages on the site Mr. Lloyd had, just PM me. I have them on my hard drive.

OK, I think I know why Leeds_Lobber posts as a guest.

It is because he is absent-minded (maybe even as much so as I am) and he forgets to log in and he reads something interesting and he types up a reply and he posts it and...

The bleeped YABB software says "You gotta sign in first" and he remembers that if he backs out and signs in, YABB will consign what he typed to the Great Bit Bucket in the Sky and he will never remember what wondrous words he typed (he's absent-minded like me, remember?) so he just types in his regular moniker but it gets logged as a guest poster.

"How do I know this?" you ask.

BECAUSE THE SAME BLEEPED THING JUST HAPPENED TO ME!!

Alright, yes, if I wasn't absent-minded it wouldn't have happened, it's ME, not the computer ... grumble.

OK, I have to post a correction (and I edited my original post too) -- I DO NOT KNOW that Lloyd got fired.  I just inferred that.  It may be that he just got his web privileges revoked, and his existing stuff purged.

Dale is almost spot on - I never bother to log in as I am posting from work, and need to keep my cookies and History as 'clean' as possible.

Nope, Nick was not fired.

In a nutshell he was hosting his site on the University system, as is the right of all Newcastle University lecturers etc.

He posted some (fairly confrontational) philosophical musings, and the Veggies got upset by one of them. Nick pointed out that under the university charter he had a right to freedom of expression on his pages, and the Uni agreed. Case closed.....

Some smartypants looked through the regs, spotted that Nick only has 'visitors' rights and that as such he is not covered by these rights. So they dumped his website.

Shame really, but at the same time maybe a lesson to us all not to be confrontational on the web.... um... like I am sometimes..... oh well...

I just had a brief look at the mirrored article.  Mr. Lloyd certainly lampoons the vegans properly.

Unfortunately, as he is deriding them for falsification and exaggeration, he also does some exaggeration of his own ("There are more parasites living in and on your body than there are cells of your own body." --- excuse, please, how does he know and who counted them?).

Yeah, it's not the most even-tempered or balanced article. But it's hardly the sort of thing an institute of Higher Education should be getting so upset about it starts a 'slash & Burn' policy on the whole of his website.

Oh, and I was  Veggie for about two years... but I can see where he is coming from - a hell of a lot of Veggies have a 'holier than thou' attitude towards meat eaters.

Personlay i dont like it when people tell me what not to eat and what not to read and what not.

a while back there where protesters outside of some store, they had pics of all these dead animals and how bad the meat is and stuff. So i walked in and bought the largest order of meat stuff they had, and at it right beside the window they where protesting at.

They gave me some nasty looks ill tell ya :)
