hi, i boiled my traps in tea , but i touched them with a naked hand,and sealed them in a container full of green grass and leaves, will my scent still be there this trapping season or will the grass and leaves cover it

I think you took care of your scent but I don't know about the lingering smell of Earl Grey! :)

  Hello, buger,                                                                            
       I work in a hospital lab and for many years we have worn rubber gloves 100% of the time while working. ( Actually, the gloves are usually latex or vinyl. ) It took me a while to get used to working with gloves on all the time but now I would never work without them. If you can't find medical gloves try dishwashing gloves available at supermarkets. These are also not expensive and should keep your scent from contaminating the traps.                                              
       I believe that your scent will degrade with time, especially if you could throw some nice dirt into the container.......thats right, DIRT! Soil often has micro-organisms which consume biological material. Try getting some damp soil from the area where you will set the traps. You could also try some of the commercial cover scents such as "skunk pee" or "fresh earth" although these can get expensive.                        
      When deer hunting, I would always hang my jacket, vest, hat and pants out a couple of nights before opening day to air out, then store them in plastic bags with pine boughs. Also, when I got out into the woods I would always try to walk through shallow water and especially I would step into muddy spots and "wash" my rubber boots with mud while on my way to my stand. This appears to have worked because on several occasions when I was in my stand waiting, I saw deer cross the path I had taken and they showed no sign of detecting my scent.
       In fact, I have had deer within 10 to 15 yards and they did not appear to be aware of me even though I was on the ground rather than in a tree stand.

Excellent! I'm having some too!I got some tea samples from Upton Tea Imports and I'm trying a Darjeeling: Singbulli 2nd flush DJ-72 whatever that is ??? By the way, don't wear powdered gloves when dealing with traps.The powder has a scent to it. ;)

Another thing that you can add to the mix, if you can find it, is wild mint. It grows everywhere, so the animals are used to it, and it's powerful enough to mask any scent.

I boil my snares and traps in old walnut hulls then remove them with rubber gloves into ziplck bags
the walnut hulls also dye the snares and traps

I lived in Jacksonville florida four about 4 years once I do not remember walnut trees there

You might try wild onions to cover the scent. They are very common and I believe they do grow in Florida.

really, so a cut up onion will, work, will it spook them or make them rust

I dont know about makeing them rust. If they do you can always clean them


onion is pretty common i dont know why it would spook them, be carefull where you set the trap you might catch me! I love wild onion's  ;D

would a onion from the store be good
