rated 'r' in the U.S. so i'd have to sneak in the theatre or wait for the dvd.... not a big problem technically speaking (i've unknowingly snuck into several r rated movies)... but contrary to popular belief, I occasionaly have morals....

looks like an awesome movie, what did you think?

I've heard that Hugo Weaving has trouble acting through an unchanging mask, as any actor would, but apparently it's an ok film.  It's all about Thatcher, of course, and a "futuristic" fascist Britain, which sounds interesting, if implausible.

Willem Dafoe preforms like a dream as the green goblin in spiderman and that was with a mask too ;D

undoubtedly you all have heard the story already about the mask, and guy fawkes.  how he tried to blow up the parliament building on the fifth of november.  but that is supposedly his face or some such.  just thought i would mention that.  

ps.  great movie!  i loved it.  i have read some bad reviews for it, but i enjoyed it alot.  i liked how much it made one think.  i am also sure that many of you know that V was originaly a comic book in the 80's.  the future in the comic is actualy our past, so they had to adapt the dates for modern day.

Yeah, it was an anti-Thatcherite comic book.  It seems a little irrelevant today, maybe, but I have also heard it has been updated.  I was going to see it at the weekend, but I heard the Jonathon Ross review (or "weview") of it and was warned against it.
 November 5th is our version of July 4th, when Catholics were thwarted from killing James I.  Lots of fireworks, bonfires, and Stuart history on TV.

And as for the homeland security acts in america - well lets just say in 20 years time we'll all either look back on now and laugh at how naive we were to let our governments take our freedoms without a whimper let alone a struggle - or we won't be allowed access to history books and laughing will be a proscribed activity punishable by death.
(slight exaggeration there but you get the idea)

Not gonna happen, I think, but I do sometimes think about some of these ideas and think, "hang on, that's not Labour.  Weren't you guys socialists once?"  Tuition fees, for instance.  Big issue for me; I am one of the first to have to pay the whole £3000 a year.  Not a very socialist path of education policy.
 But I don't think it will lead to totalitarianism.  We are basically just mimicking America, which is a shame.  (Why can't we make up our own way, without deliberately infuriating the Islamists etc?)  I see the solution coming when people just calm down, people don't even think about invading Iran, and we try to patch things up.  Maybe when a Democrat is back in the White House. The late nineties was great - why can't we have that back?  And besides, we might not even have the same country in 20 years.  The effects of global warming could cause a massive rise in temperature in summer, and a great decrease in winter; and the rising seas will engulf a lot of the coastal areas, which, let's face it, is much of the country.

Okay another example (lol - I really do have to go do some work, but this is more fun)

Before the onset of the iraqi invasion (war my arse - 'it's slings and arrows against the lightning' ) Over 1 million people filled the streets saying it  was wrong and not to do it.
Now in a 'democracy' that would have had some weight.
It was ignored because the government - even then - knew it had sufficient powers to ignore the general populace.
that kind of regime ring any bells ?
It sure as hell isn't what I would call a democracy.

Yeah, but you can get some good comedy out of tyrants.  "Team America", that's pretty funny; and stand-up comics can get plenty of mileage out of politics nowadays.  But if a government of England wants to change the law without asking the populace in any way, then they will have to go through me.  A whiny little grey, old, politician?  Single right hook, that'll settle it.  Unless he's John "Marlon On The Waterfront" Prescott.
