Title: Revolutionary Thinking
Post by TechStuf on Mar 30th, 2006 at 5:10pm
I post the following with the consideration that some may find it offensive, or even good old "neighborly harrassment" inducing.....I post it not for open discussion, only as information for those who might find it reasonable to investigate.

(Private discussion is certainly welcomed.)

I like slings as much as the next guy.........maybe more....but by comparison, I care much more about you as my fellow men, who are worthy of more than casual discussion about the sling.

When I come to the "letters to the editor" section of the local paper,  I pick and choose what is appropriately located in that section of the paper. (much like this section of the site)  I simply skim over that which I find disinteresting.

I don't agree with everything, who does?  But I am nonetheless, thankful that freedom of speech still exists.

I have found that usually those with much to hide, recommend that those with which they do not agree go and do the same.

http://inthedark.openthegovernment.org/

"I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it."

It is said that frogs, which are quite thin skinned, absorb all manner of toxins from the environment and are good indicators of what's ahead regarding world pollution.

I believe that's true.

If Chris and his administrators find my words too offensive or inciteful to handle.......possibly even moreso than 4 letter expletives,  I would certainly understand.  Though sadly, such is the highly engineered status quo of the world these days.  Let me know publicly or privately by either changing the name of this particular section of the forum to read: "Administrative and other topics besides heavy non escapist stuff" or perhaps even posting a list of 'verboten' words or topics?

Or for that matter, any other means they deem appropriate.

FWIW....I leave those in the forum among my fellow Americans with the following:

God bless,

TS

I don't see what the problem is.  TechStuf posted his thoughts concerning what's ahead, in this section of the forum, titled "Administrative and Other Topics," which is for "News and announcements about Slinging.org and all other non-weapon related posts."

When I'm looking for information on slings, I go to the "General Discussion" section.  When I've got some time and am curious, I check out what's in this section.  I don't agree with everything that everybody has posted here, but so what?  Not everybody agrees with what I've said sometimes, either.  If we all agreed about everything, there would be no point in saying anything.

Had TechStuf posted his essay in the "General Discussion" forum, he would deserve our censure, for failure to abide by the rules of the forum ("General Discussion" is about slinging).  What he had to say is still worth thinking about, but the proper course would be, move it to "Administrative and Other Topics" and send him a private message, "Bad boy, don't do this again."    But if my memory serves me, that essay appeared in "Administrative" to start with.  So everything is fine.

In my opinion (humble or not), too much is made these days of the "right" of people not to be bothered (which generally means, "made to think about real, difficult problems"), with the exercise of such "right" consisting of shutting down whoever is talking; whereas such "right", if it exists at all, should be exercised by walking away from the talker, ceasing to listen.

In the context of this forum, if something bothers you, you have two correct choices: ignore it and pass on to something else, or take the time to write a reasoned response or refutation to what bothered you.  To shout down the person who wrote what bothered you, is not a correct choice.

The problem is that the forum dosn't want big heated discussion that will turn more people away than draw in.

I don't see nothing wrong with this topic, but there has been subject between teckstuff and ,well someone else here, that had to be shut down.

yeah true but why is it such a big deal when someone puts his idea's into a forum..when someone feels something is worth to be shared there should be no problem  :-/i mean no matter how wierd something sounds to someone the person saying it Must have a reason to share it otherwise he wouldn't bother...

IMHO:

TS, I understand where you are coming from and appreciate that you are preaching your beliefs with good intentions; thank you for your concern.
While there is nothing technicaly wrong with your posts, it  is certainly causing a level of anxiety and tension among us.
I suggest: create a website, even have a forum in it perhaps, then put it in your profile and/or signature. This would allow your message to get out to the world in general as well as to us specifically. There would be no basis whatsoever for accusations of being improper on this site.
The best part is that no one would be able to do anything about it, you may moderate it however you see fit. You could continue uncensored monolauges and hopefully dialouges as you see fit.  You would be maintaing FREEDOM of speech to a level currently impossible on this site. One person wouldn't be able to cause enough problems to have your threads locked. It's a simple and easy solution, if you chose to do so, there are plenty of people here (including myself) who would help you set it up.

That's my thought, please think about it. Admin's please don't lock this thread unless it becomes like the last one...

If you where to come on the forum and say "how much you hate christians." You would be just sturring up a hornets nets. There are certain things on this forum that we WILL NOT stand for. If someone posts about one of these bad topics then it will be locked, deleted or your account will be erased (someone did just get the boot too). I don't see anything wrong with this topic at all. Post away, just be good

I don't mean to be disrespectul, but... "ooo, gossip :P" I can't think of any members who've recently disapeared for inappropriate conduct unless.... O No! it must be my account, gone forev- O, wait.

More seriously now, it's good that the administrators are loose enough to let ideas get shared but don't allow extremely offensive content through. Thank you very much for your service to this site.

It is working fine with me

As for who got the boot, i am not going to say. I know who it was but i don't know exactly why. I do know however that they were a repeat offended, and did deserve to be kicked off. If one of the other moderator want to tell everyone that fine with me, but i think he was the first one kicked off (but i could be wrong). The moderators here (this includes me) are usally pretty leant with most stuff. Take the more about indians topic. It proably should have been shut down, but no one was having any e-fighting so I left it alone.

Wonder who got booted? and what for? If I don't get booted for letting rip with a stream of hatred at one of the other members on here, what DO you need to do to get the chop?

Title: Re: Revolutionary Thinking

My reason for getting shirty with the other member was that I have been a member of a number of e-groups that have been destroyed by one or two of the members getting into insane flame-wars. That Person's posts were the sort that inspire those things.

Were I to start posting full-page posts (and boring, badly written full pages at that)  extolling the joys of Satanism, or Marxism, or some other 'ism I would expect people to get annoyed at me.

So when a member starts using this forum to post his religious preachings mixed with barking conspiracy theories and calls for political action, i get cross.

Sorry to everybody else.

hmmm sadly yet truely i can see leeds_lobber's point too he's right in saying the freedom of speech will only get you so far and being free to say something doesn't mean that other people have to like it...

also the first post was i read was very polite and clear :) the second one well lets not go there shall we ;)

The person whose account got canceled changed his name to that of another member's and posted messages on the forum under that name.

That was way out of line! >:(

Happens all the time on other groups I am in, and there is no real way to stop it, except after the event.

I have seen people making Death Threats (like sure, your computer is gonna shoot my computer??) spreading apalling and utterly false stories about the target that could, if read by the victim's friends and colleagues lead to real grief and sorrow for them. The internet makes that easy, I do not want this group to go the same way.

bigkahuna, yep I like my dogs better than most people too. ;D

TechStuf,  I am worried about you my freind,  I understand exactly (or pretty close) where you are coming from and what you have been writing about.  I just lack the abillity to write as you do.  None of this bothers me though.  What does is the melancholy feeling that comes across from your writings.  Doom & Gloom, take it or leave it, if you believe what you believe, rejoice!  You are saved through your beliefs, as I am through mine.  I hope only to cheer you up a bit with this.  I do want to thankyou for your worries  and prayers for others.  Just don't let the fear consume you. :)

Thanks for your heartfelt concerns!

It is by overcoming fear that I share such truths.  If I were truly afraid for myself.....I would do as most others do.....and place my head in the sand where for most, it seems to belong.

What fear is inferred in my writing is borne from fear of displeasing He under whose obligation I have willingly placed myself.   Knowledge unshared, can poison it's complacent host.

I still have intermittent personal fears......but mostly I fear what is sweeping toward the hapless bulk of those begging to be caught unaware.

I have grappled long and hard with fear......and have found that it's only foothold is lack of faith in one's self and his Creator.

No. If fear were to consume me.....I'd shut up and take a job in government or with one of any number of megacorps.

"They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - attributed to Benjamin Franklin.

Peace,

TS, you're really beginning to sound like William Blake:

Quote:
Knowledge unshared, can poison it's complacent host.
See Blake, The Poison Tree.
And with the prophecies-of-America-in-the-Bible thing, you are sounding like his later poems, Europe and America, as well as many of his others from "Songs of Innocence and Experience."
It depends entirely on your point of view as to whether this is a good thing or not.
