I recently took my girlfriend to Lake Placid, NY. It's a cold place where the 1980 Olympics were hosted- great for skiing and outdoor activities.

I took the opportunity while driving along the desolate roads there to find a nice scenic spot with a frozen river running parallel to the roadside to do a few "throws".  There were no people, no cars just in case you are wondering.

The following video captures were done to illustrate my evolving technique. I use an overhead, helicopter technique and my release was learned from one of the excellent slinging articles (Slinging advice for beginners - Bill Blohm) This pointing method helps me a lot.

A- starting stance- I use about 3-4 revolutions with legs together as shown- sideways to my target.

B- The open-stance position which I take as I am entering my final revolution.

C- Using the method in one of the articles, I try to point my finger (of my slinging hand) in the direction of the intended throw and release at that spot in front of me--

In all, a healthy start for a beginner. I was keeping the throws within a fairly tight forward angle, but not aiming for anything in particular on the ice. It was neat to see them sliding across the frozen water once they hit.  

Definitely no distance records set, but I am learning!

Froderick, it looks like you are having a lot of fun. Did you make your sling or purchase one? I am looking to purchase one, and make my own later on. :D

Thanks for the pics. Slinging is like skiing--its fun no matter how good or bad you are. ;D  I just wish I were more on the "good" side. :-/

What a beautiful winter! This year we have dark, rainy and snowless weather, nothing nice :( I like to sling snow-balls for accuracy, of course when snow is clammy. They explode nicely when hit a aim and mark hit points.

I use my sling in the big snow ball fight we all have. It is fun to see the faces of people that have never seen a sling in their lives ,and you start slinging snow balls at them.

I'm used to Freddie having crazy hobbies. I think it's funny.

Last week, we collected a bunch of rocks and I watched Freddie sling them into a pond. He progresses every time I watch him.

My girlfriend does not know much english otherwise I'm sure she'd would want to join in.

Goddamn I wish we could get some snow.  Apparently it was going to be the coldest winter since 1960 or thereabouts.  BS.  It's been mild.  So that snow looks awfully appealing.  Beautiful place as well.
 Anyhow, I've done no slinging recently.  I've been making a new crossbow, which has been taking up all the time I haven't been earning money or doing college work.
