Primitive slate stone tomahawks!
Nov 25th, 2020 at 4:03pm

I made a couple of primitive tomahawks out of slate and made a video documenting it.  I must say that I'm really impressed with the Tomahawk design, it's such a useful tool in addition to being a powerful throwing and melee weapon.

Really nice! It's cool to see just how easy it is to make one of these.

@Kick, yeah I was pleasantly surprised.  Usually primitive compound tools are high maintenance but the tomahawk design held up pretty well.

Great video!

The veggie slicing could totally be a stone age infomercial.

“My final hour is at hand. We face an enemy more numerous and cunning than the world has yet seen. Remember your training, and do not fear the hordes of Judas. I, without sin, shall cast the first stone. That will be your sign to attack! But you shall not fight this unholy enemy with stones. No! RAZOR GLANDES!  Aim for the eyes! May the Lord have mercy, for we shall show none!“  -Jesus the Noodler

I have this tomahawk. I think it is authentic but not what culture made it.
Heard that these are made by placing the axehead in the crevice of a tree, letting it grow around the axehead and then years later cutting down the tree and making the axe.

Hmmm not sure about that. Drilling holes isn't that difficult even if you don't have any metal.

That's definitely not just grown around it. The method I've seen you actually burn the hole out by lighting a fire in the spot you want the hole. Primitive Technology made an axe this way:
