Slinging from New Mexico
Oct 23rd, 2020 at 2:46pm

Been really into slinging intensely since August. It's been a great COVID hobby. Watched the Invicta Balearic Slingers video, bought a cheap sling on Amazon which I had a blast with, and then started making my own crude slings and buying a few better ones.

The ancient history of the sling fascinates me but slinging itself is definitely what's holding my attention, and I'm finding a lot of pleasure just slinging tennis balls to the dog and trying out different styles. Still can't throw Balearic to save my life, but my helicopter and simple underhanded are solid. My accuracy is slowly improving. Am teaching my young sons to sling as well.

Here's what I'm working with. The nice braided paracord slings are from Practical Paracord. The one that's folded up is my go to, a simple "butterfly" pouch that fits in my pocket, ~42".

Welcome from Finland! That's a nice collection. I wouldn't worry too much about Balearic. I was slinging for 4 or 5 years before I got the hang of it and I'm still crap Cheesy Great to hear your helping the next generation of slingers Cheesy I wish I had learned early.

Thanks everyone. I'm from Albuquerque. But yeah, Kick, I wish I had learned earlier too. I grew up on Staten Island and spent countless hours as an adolescent, bored on a rocky beach throwing rocks without a sling.

Greetings from South Texas from a former Albuquerquean!  Man I miss eating Dion’s pizza with green chile and pepperoni.

Is that an asymmetric sling at the very back?

Nah, it's not an asymmetric sling. It's one of EasyAnt's, pretty solid sling but nothing special.

I've finally gotten over my NY pizza chauvinism to acknowledge that Dion's is actually pretty good.

Seems like New Mexico would have a decent amount of stones right? I always had good luck with ammo out west. Welcome to the forum! We do have a SITH starting up. You might consider joining if that sort of thing interests you.  Wink

welcome from southeastern NM!! there are rocks here, caliche mostly, and i'm on the edge of texas so i got some access to red sand (and its clay). i have yet to make glands from said clay but am sure the pulverized caliche would work great as it becomes quite solid when it dries out.
