Found a Paul Bunyan Bows
Oct 5th, 2020 at 1:33pm

We have a local aution in town on FB, my gf uses it. I dont have an account. Picked this up for $22. Not sure if its fiberglass or straight glass bow, from the 50s or 60s. Couldn't find much information about it, but its the 600 series, 60# draw. I already have the string off, it was old, i could only draw it like 3in. I need a new one, but i am doing some tests on it to check the integrity of the limbs to make sure i can get it back to its former glory.  It also needs a new leather handle.

I am hoping it wzs stored correctly,  but not sure, due to being strung when igot it, the auction had no information about it, so my knifemaking mentor, who has been making bows for just as long. Has bee giving me tips,  and now ihave it set aside so i can test it in a week or 2.i hopetobeable to shoot it, but at 60lbs, not sure if i can manage that. Might be a while lol

I'm pretty sure the company was named after the folklore hero and not an actual man named Paul Bunyan.

So is it a legendary or famous company? Since it may be a collectible?

Not sure about that.  From what I can find online, they operated during the 1950s and 60s, as vetryan15 mentioned.  It sounds like they had a pretty good reputation while they were making archery equipment.  If anyone else has more info, I'd be curious to hear it too.

I think the collectible aspect is just because these bows aren't made anymore.  Not because they're particularly valuable, at least not in a money sense.  But if the bow can be restored a bit and it still working, it could be a nice little piece of recent modern history.

Including what Joe said, they started making fishing lures in the 30s, out of Minneapolis MN, before they added archery equipment.  But this bow is actually completely fiberglass and good ro shoot, as my neighbor came over and tested it out with a full power draw. 2 of us while watching almost jumoed to the ground, in anticipation of it exploding, but it didnt. So it passed the test.
