Phone Problem
Sep 7th, 2020 at 7:42pm

Maybe this has happened to one of you before.  I haven't experienced this yet.  I have a fairly old Galaxy S7 that has served me well.  This evening while I was using it the screen went black.  I tried to restart it but it just got stuck on the promo screen.  For the past two hours it's been sitting there switching between various screens (start up, promo, regular at rest, etc..) on it's own.  It is completely unresponsive.  Normally what I'd do to a phone or computer at this point is remove the battery then reconnect it so the device will reboot.  In that the S7 is sealed I can't get at the battery.  My plan is to just let it keep cycling through the various screens until it drains its battery.  Then hopefully it will reboot itself when the charger is connected.  It's running a little hot so I have it sitting in front of the fan where it will probably be until tomorrow morning when it runs itself dead.
Has this happened to anyone before.  Opinions, suggestions?

This page has some things to try.  I would recommend looking at Steps 2 & 3.  Although watch out for those instructions on doing a factory reset.  That will wipe out any pictures, videos, etc. you have on the phone.  They do mention backing up your data first.

Thanks.  The phone is fried.  I got a new one today; a less expensive Samsung A11.  The phone is cheap enough so that if I decide it really sucks I can just keep it as an emergency spare and get an S10.  I am wrestling with it big time and I'm very pissed off at the moment.  It's probably just a matter of me adapting.

The old S7 is fried.  I lost all of my contacts but fortunately my pictures and videos including all of my ex gf porn are fine.  I had moved them to an SD card. I got a new, cheaper Samsung model, an A11.  It seems OK.  Earlier this year I had to switch to a new computer.  Changing to a new device is a major pain in the rump.  I'll be OK in another day or so.  I'm about 90% functional now.
One good thing about this phone; it's cheap enough at $180.00 that if I end up really hating it, which I don't see happening, I can eat its cost, throw in in a drawer as an emergency phone, and upgrade to an S10.

About three weeks into it I like my Samsung A-11.  It does everything the S-7 did as far as I can tell  but it was less than 1/3 the price.  And the screen is a little bigger. The determining factor in whether or not this was a good idea will be its longevity.
