Sling-Bola

A fun projectile for a sling, a small bola. Probably been done before.
Just wrap it in a bundle and place it in your sling.
It works good, it spreads out and it throws further than just throwing this small bola by hand.

(The sling I used is not specifically tailored for this projectile, it just happens to fit well.)

Keep in mind this probably has no real use. It's smarter to just lenghten the cords on your bola than to extend the lever of the bola through this ''bypass'' method by placing it into a longer sling  Wink

I am making myself a real luxury bola. 3 balls of brass with eyelet bolts, with each ball and eyelet weighting 82 grams together, and they'll be tied together with 275 paracord, giving a quick flying bola of about 250 grams. The balls should arrive tomorrow, they cost me 8.5 euros a piece.

I grip my bola by the knot, not by one weight. If I throw it while holding one weight it doesn't fly nearly as far, but it will spin like a helicopter. If I throw it from the knot, they will fly straight and open up like a spider web or fishing net as they go.  I don't do multiple rotations, just one greek sidehand throw. Otherwise the cords get twisted and it opens up much later or not at all.   Twisting the cords together would result in the balls staying together, which would allow big ol smacking power

I'm not so sure.  I'd rather sling your small bola at a flock of birds than a single projectile.

Yea but the bola in itself is already a sling. So you could just make the cords of the bola longer and it would achieve the same, probably be a whole lot easier to throw as well, and you get a larger spread for birds to tangle up in
