I saw that the AmdoCraft Tibetan sling pouches are made separately then the cords are sewn on afterwards. Somehow before I saw that I didn't really consider that that was an option. That being said I have almost no experience weaving and even less experience weaving successfully Cheesy

I've made a few slings with twined cords and they've worked really well. Every time I think "Why have I been braiding again?", but I still really like weighty slings. My very first sling was pretty thick paracord and large pouch and I think it's informed a lot of my slinging. I like thin slings too (I recently got a load of smaller, thinner slings from Loki in a trade and they're amazing), but I always come back to thicker ones. Just personal preference.

So why not build the retention cord, pouch and release cord as seperate entities?

This is how I build my EDC slings. Although to be fair it’s been quite a few days since I every day carried a sling but ya that’s the idea.

I call them modular slings since any part can be replaced easily without rebuilding the whole sling. I found early on that the design I use has practically no contact with the release cord on release. I know this because my ammo of choice is sandpaper textured concrete glandes and they will tear up a release cord in short order if it’s hitting it. Hell they tear up a thick leather pouch for that matter. Yet my release cords on these types of slings have never worn down.

Wish I could say I designed it to do that but the first one was a happy accident so I just went with it from then on.

My very first slings when I was a kid were similar to the one you posted though far more ugly and less refined. That’s the beauty of the sling though, a very simple design can be just as effective as a very complicated one.
