OK.  Doesn't have to be either.  Certainly there would be more disadvantages to mention.  I just wanted to show one more picture that shows a clean trigger.  As you can see very well, the slingshot is bent backwards when opened.  That happens through the brake in the end.  This makes it very quick to solve.  I think it is very questionable whether the reduced friction of a Y sling is decisive.  They distribute their energy on three strings.
