Iron slingshot found embedded in the wall of an aristocratic house at Pompeii. Wonder what happened.

This iron seems strange to me : the Romans used lead (sure) or clay (maybe) or stones (maybe) for their slings, but Iron was way more useful in other forms. Could not it be some volcano result ?

the lava next to it also looks bubbly like it was still hot outgassing when placed there, like hot tuffa,  not like something that was shaped or part a wall.  Possibly a piece of iron rubble or shot caught up in a pyroclastic flow, being iron it could survive the high temp, the surface above it to the left does look broken out, but it would certainly be a forceful impact. An iron insert or anchor mount of some sort ?
does look pretty cool.
