economy rant
Dec 5th, 2019 at 9:01am

this has to do with economics
in 15 years I've seen basic product prices getting 2-3x , and workhours get -50% and governments passing more taxes.

usually when a price of a product goes up you can say I won't buy again but this is not the case when the price goes up by everyone and the product is food or gas.
It's not inflation because that should either raise income along with the prices or both should remain the same.

Is there a mechanism in your country that is supposed to stop this from happening?

In Europe I 've concluded that : all governments collect taxes => those taxes are sent as sponsorship/support to other countries to make for example highways => those countries goverments give the money to private companies (friends of politicians) to make the roads => they overcharge the construction and lower the workers payments(keeping the rest) => they put tolls on the highways that are supposed to already have been paid by the EU and that countries' taxed citizens => they make contracts to get a high percentage of tolls money for years to come.
The same is happening with immigrant crisis , the problem exists, they give money to corrupt governments then those governments distribute the money to NGOs, seminars, private companies that are supposed to help with the immigrant crisis, the money never arrive to help an immigrant . EU gave enough money so that immigrants could rent a house => immigrants are treated like animals in (concentration) camps.

A nice way to destroy decent work.
bullshit products raise the price of everything else . creating laws out of "necessity" and increasing taxes create new bullshit jobs. Everyone looking for a job is either compromising with survival or looking for tax loop holes ending up doing a bullshit job.

So what can we do?

Tax the rich. I've said it before but one of the truest things my dad has ever said is that you can't get rich without screwing someone over (and I add to that that it's usually multiple people, multiple times). Maybe through the lottery or at a casino but even then where has that money come from? The desperate quite often. Corruption and nepotism are so ingrained in so many governments (All? Probably to some extent) that it would take massive worldwide revolution against things just carrying on as normal. I don't see that happening. The real problem is that the people that would be best to have in power have no interest in or craving for power so we are left with those that will lie and cheat and steal and betray to get what they want.

I have been called a pessimist by some...

Nope. The rich write the tax laws. That’ll never work. Make taxes simple and fair, and people can’t hide loopholes in the law.

In America 80% of our tax money goes to the top 1%.  Our corruption is so deeply engrained at this point short of revolution I don't see a solution.

It's the squeezing of the middle classes, or if not squeezing then stagnation. Here in the UK we see prices rising all the time, especially house prices/rents and train travel. Unless you are progressing through career and picking up promotions you are going backwards.

I'm not sure of a solution, I believe it's a natural result of globalism and trade with poorer countries. Unfortunately moving to a more protectionist model I fear would diminish a country's economic clout and cause it to decline on the world stage.

As developing countries reach the level of Europe/US then the trends may change.

well If I were rich, I would definitely avoid paying taxes any way I could.

You can't blame people with money for wanting to hang on to it.
The tax laws are made by governments - and should absolutely be changed.
At the moment if a sole trader like myself doesn't pay tax I get calls, letters threats and it's extremely unpleasant.
If  huge corporation doesn't pay tax their representative gets taken out to a fancy restaurant, wined and dined and told they don't have to pay.

That's wrong.
But doing everything you can within the ridiculous remit of the tax laws - I have no issue with that.
It's the laws that are wrong not the legal tax avoidance.

Personally I think income tax should be totally scrapped.
How is it different to someone mugging you every week and stealing a good chunk of the money in your wallet ?

I would increase vat instead.

So that way, the more money you spent, the more tax you would pay.
Plus vat goes on everything.

Earn as much as you like, only pay tax when you spend the money.

It would encourage saving, increase government revenue from wealthier people and remove the stupidity of income rax.

Taxes are supposed to be so that a state can raise money to do/make something that individuals or companies wouldn't do or couldn't do by themselves and will benefit everyone in that state.

so what is VAT supposed to be used on? selling something and 25% goes where? if we want to make roads tax for roads, if we want to maintain infrastructure make a maintenance tax.
vague taxes are unreasonable.
another thing should be to put ceiling to products' prices such as food or tie the to basic income or something.

ostracism, although funny, would make powerful people of all kinds chase virtue not just more power.

As long as the robber barons can continue to convince the stupid, ignorant population that it's far better to keep our wealth in the private foreign bank accounts of the few than to spend it on the people we are doomed.  Using the peoples' money on the people is COMMUNIST and SOCIALIST.  These are very bad things because they say they are.  Far better to stifle renewable energy technologies and spend all of our money (and our son's lives) on oil wars to make Exxon richer. It's a simple procedure to keep the races at each others throats so they never notice they're being robbed blind.
