Can any one identify this skull
Nov 15th, 2019 at 1:03am

So I found a skull earlier this week in a area that supposedly has fallow deer, they're not a native species so it's purely a theory at this stage.

Animals that do occur in the region and are confirmed are as followed :
Kangaroo
Fox
Sheep
Goats
Cows
Wild dog

And as i said before there are some chances of it being in a area where deer occur
I am looking to see my first wild deer and am hoping I'm looking in the right spot
Fallow deer is what is ment to be there but also red deer and samba are known to be somewhat in the same areas.

I personally think it's one of these 3
Fallow deer
Domestic sheep
Or domestic goat

Also I saw a lot of trees scratched up and I've never seen trees scratched like that before.
Any help would be appreciated

I would say from the teeth (definitely herbivore), and the large eye sockets, I would say domestic sheep. I'm not entirely sure what the differences are between a goat and a sheep skull, but I get the feeling it's closer to sheep. I've been interested in skulls and bones for a fair while and I'm not too bad at this point in picking out the more common skulls that get found Cheesy

My best finds are a dog's jawbones (lower jaw had snapped in half) that I found on a hill in Tenerife, an elk skull (moose for the Americans) found near the Summer cottage (scumbag poachers had dumped the skull and legs) and almost a complete hedgehog skeleton I found in a bush next to my slinging spot Cheesy

From the teeth I agree with Kick.  It's definitely not a wild dog, fox, kangaroo, or rabbit.  It's too small to be a cow's head.

I'm still in the belief it's 1 of the 3 , I don't have enough knowledge to differentiate between these species .
Sheep most common of the 3 however the location I found the skull is somewhat random . Also no other bones were found near skull.
I'm hoping that it's a deer as then I have confirmed their location . Sheep or goat and the search continues.

As I said before the tree scratching is some of my best evidence I'm in the right place.

I would say it's too wide for a deer. It might well have been carried further away from the rest of the body.

I was searching for images of deer/sheep/goat skulls and came across this site.  The species don't match exactly, but I would guess that most of the characteristics are similar.  Based on the differences this site mentions, I would also guess it's a sheep or goat skull.
