Book recommendation: The Manual of Braiding by Noémi Speiser
Nov 8th, 2019 at 2:21pm

Dear all,

There is a book I was hunting for a rather long time. It was Noémi Speiser's "The Manual of Braiding". I managed to obtain it through a library but failed to obtain a copy for myself. Until now: The Haupt Verlag issued a reprint of the book! Also available through Amazon.

For those unaware of the book: This is the most complete and diverse compendium of braiding techniques I'm aware of. It treats everything from the theoretical background to ply splitting, marudai, fistbraiding to braid analysis. Be aware:  This is not a tutorial book. While each technique is given in sufficient detail to work a basic example, a lot of the finer details you have to figure out yourself through experimentation. Nevertheless, for everyone interested in more than the basic plaits or textile research, this book is definitely a must have.
Grab a copy, as long as there are available  Wink
