Finger loops
Oct 23rd, 2019 at 3:37pm

Ok, I’ve got another question:
Favorite finger loop style?
Shape? Materials? Adjustable? Etc.

For me...
I’m starting to settle on the teardrop shape. Preferably made from 1/4-1/2 inch wide leather. It fits snugly and comfortably on a variety of finger sizes. Stays on the finger during slinging but isn’t difficult to remove from a finger.

Yeah, either a leather strip or a leather lined braided cord work best for me.

Ich experimentiere gerade mit dieser Form. Für zwei oder einen Finger.
Die Ergebnisse sind überraschend gut.

I like them about an inch wide and thick enough not to bend much. It should be very tight when first made so it loosens up to a perfect fit. The best one I've made was lined with a thin pig skin on the inside. It was silky smooth. Still miss it. This is the one area I've found where simple slings are better than elaborate braided slings.

I don't know if I would call mine a favorite.  It's more of what I'm accustomed to.  When I first made a sling I obviously didn't have much of an idea what I was doing, and the finger loop came out really big.  I needed to use two finger to fit it, and that's still what I do today.

Material doesn't make much difference.  The bulk of my slings have a loop of paracord, hemp, or linen.

The double finger loop is my favourite -

...

Very comfortable and secure, even with small diameter cord such as this dyneema. I like a nice snug fit, usually take a few tries to get the loops the right size, I've not figured out a repeatable way to get it just right.

When out and about I'll wear the sling on index and middle finger, then wrap it around my wrist and tie it off with a little slipknot on the back of my hand. Very comfortable and quick to deploy, I can go up hill and down dale all day and forget that it's there.

leather sliding finger loops.
More comfortable, do not rub - fit anyone.
Also very easy to make.

I've found my double finger loops to be good for not rubbing too as the middle portion is the bit that moves about, but they need to be fairly snug to the size of finger, which means they might not fit other people well. Like My Dad can't use my loops as his fingers are too big, but as my dyneema slings have detachable cords I've made him a pair fitted perfectly to him.

I usually make mine with a "sliding" two finger loop. If anyone would like a tutorial, I can accomodate.

Beautiful sling!  I get the basic idea from your picture.  Is it just as simple as rolling the finger loop back toward the sling, split the cordage around it, and continue braiding?  Any tips or potential problems to watch out for would be appreciated.

There seem to be quite a few slingers here using the two finger loop.  I'd like to give this a try.

My finger loops are usually simple affairs.  I just fold the retention cord then secure it with West Country Whipping.

I've yet to try a two finger loop but one of GurtTractor's slings should be arriving soon Cheesy I made a wrist retention sling but it might take a while to get used to. Feels very strange when you've been using a loop on the middle finger for the entire time you've been slinging.
