Why thank you sir! Anything to avoid responsibilities.

you should know you are helping a lot of people procrastinate too...

I'm not much of a procrastinator, I would like to be but I can never bring myself to actually do it. That's why I post random topics on Slinging.org.

I hear ya. I’ve been meaning to procrastinate more, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Shall I go on? Ok...
PUBG the Movie
Goldeneye the Video Game: The Movie
Doodle Jump
Flappy Bird
Fallout
Pacman: Revenge of the Fallen
Ms. Pacman: The Mystery of the Bow

... you’re right Morphy. There’s no excuse for bad movies. Maybe I should quit my job and move to Hollywood to fix things for you. All I have to do is become a waiter and wait until the big shot producers roll through the restaurant so I can pitch these epic movie ideas to them.

There was a Rubik's cube movie idea floating around for a while. Luckily it never got off the ground

The other thing I don't really get is the reboots. The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot was unnecessary. The original movie was perfect. You are never going to reboot it up to that level so why even bother doing it? I wish Hollywood would get some decent ideas for new movies.

Please no more Jurassic Parks, Transformers, and even though I wouldn't want all the comic book movies to stop at least turn out more original big budget blockbusters in addition to them. Inception was a good example. Great cast, interesting idea, music, set pieces etc.

Remember when Raiders of the Lost Ark was an original movie? Star Wars? Matrix? We need more beginnings and less sequels.

But Morphy! Think of those poor poor studio execs! They only have tens of millions when they could have HUNDREDS of millions! Would you deny those poor desperate millionaires just so you can see a movie with an original idea directed by someone that cares about crafting a narrative? Cheesy

They make the crap because the crap sells. It's the reason a lot of modern Hollywood films have random Chinese actors and are set in China or in some way reference China. That goes down really well in China even if it makes no sense in the film for western audiences.

@Morphy, have you seen Into the Spiderverse? Rebooting Spiderman has been done so often that they made an entire movie around the idea of constantly rebooting Spiderman... Very meta

To answer your question though Morphy... most movies are bad and always have been. It’s just less painful to only remember the few good ones Smiley

Well said.

I couldn't agree more.  The overwhelming majority of reboots are no where near as good as the original. Off the top of my head I can think of one that was as good... True Grit.  Why bother?  Are there no new ideas?

That one is a really goods film. Again it depends on the director and the writing. When they have a vision, when they actually have a style and can execute it, that's when the film actually turns out good.

See Into the Spiderverse was really good.  I personally loved it. That movie earned it's Oscar. It was very well done. The art design was inspired.

@Ratman True Grit was really good. I've only seen it twice. I need to watch it again. I love Jeff Bridges he's super talented. And the girl did really well also.

It's funny because actually the movie I mentioned, Inception, did that very thing. They were careful to have a well known Chinese  actor (who had a ridiculously thick accent lol) and an Indian or asian-esque actor. Don't get me wrong both did a great job and I wouldn't want it any other way but after it happening in so many movies it does sort of stretch credulity.

Like "Really? Everybody happens to have that one friend from Mainland China???" Lol. It's cool though. So long as the movie is good I don't care.

But you're right they keep making crap movies, frankly, because we ask for it by buying tickets. Man, what I wouldn't give to have another Raiders of the Lost Ark to come out. Something that is new and different for it's time and both an adventure but with a classic feel. That would be great.   NO MORE FAST AND FURIOUS. Lol. That's another that needs to die. Hopefully sooner than later.

It's too commercialised, same with videogames now. Companies love the low risk reboots and mediocre films because it's guaranteed pay day.

Aiming to please a mass audience reliably AND take risks to produce good art are two aims that don't often align.
