You can use natural materials only, stuff you find out in the wild, what would you use to build your primitive house?

the old standby of mud and straw. Seems to be a revival in recent years.

Hardly any tools required and once dry a limewash finishes off.

I mean it would depend where I lived and what tools I had to hand.

If, like ryan I owned a wooded piece of land. Then probably a log cabin setup like he's planning.

Just depends how 'primitive' you want to go Smiley

I would go for a dug out, stone/turf/clay/branch combo. A bit like the old Viking houses in Iceland. I'd also build a treehut for the summer.

Debris Teepee or Lean To for starters.  I could have a decent one up in just a few hours with no tools at all.  After that it would depend on what resources were available.  A log cabin would be nice but if there was an abundance of good clay I might consider a brick house or one that was made of bricks and logs. Whatever I built it would be small so it would be easy to heat in the Winter.

Something along the lines of what Primitive Technology makes. Then, as with all my survival realism answers...promptly die.

Good old fashioned cave...probably a maze cave with crystal-filled caverns and running water somewhere inside... in other words a natural mansion that requires zero labor Smiley

There were plenty of young white pine trees, so built this small cabin in 1983.

Based on your pictures/posts Walter it seems like you've had an interesting life. I must say I'm a tad bit jealous.  Wink

Thatís fair.  For me, the whole area where I live is riddled with caves. Some go on for miles. Iíve been told by a friend in the construction business that developers here are always trying to hide caves because they get in the way of construction plans. Sometimes they just fill them with concrete and pretend they didnít see anything.

Yeah. It's actually easier to dig a hole and build a roof over it, but not so great in areas where it rains Smiley

@Walter.  Is that cabin still standing? Just curious.  I wss born in 1986. Plus why would you do the vertical logs ? I seen em before but not sure if it offers something that horizontal logs do not.
