That's a good price.  You could pay twice that much in America.

There's also casting moulds you can buy. If you have mechanics in your area that use lead tire weights you can get a lot of lead very cheap and make your own. Still as RM said that's a great price.

Like Morphy suggests: a lot of shooters who load their own ammo use tire weights as a cheap/free source.
... and if you bring your own shovelyou might get free lead from shooting ranges if lead bullets are still allowed in your area (meaning NOT California).  The ranges usually have to pay money to dispose of the lead.

Lead sinkers at that price should be alright.

Whenever it concerns lead projectiles, I'd say shipping price is probably more important. It doesn't matter so much if each object only costs 50 cents... yet shipping could easily exceed $40...

Unfortunately for me I didn't have wheel weights, and had to commit the great sin of buying roof flashing. As such, I sell my own lead glandes for a bit more in order to 'break' even.

I am not so much interested in generic lead projectiles, I wanted sinkers that look as much like glandes as possible.

Yesterday I have bought various sinkers in the weights of 120, 150, 180 and 200 grams, all shaped like this.

I will cut off the fishing line attachment.

I bought these used for €1.10 including shipping a piece, for all weight categories.

The heavier weight ones are not longer, but thicker in the centre.

They look better than any glande I could make, plus I don't like working with lead fumes.

These sinkers look close to the ideal.

lead fishing weights have been banned from most freshwater fishing venues for some years. With those weights, they're most likely intended for sea fishing.

so that's 1.10 euros for each weight with shipping ?
Given the weight, that's actually pretty good Smiley

just remember you will lose them all, probably fairly quickly if slinging on soft ground. whistle

Ah... but it's worth it going the extra distance... and hearing them whistling in flight!

Angular, jagged rocks... you have been beaten. You just can't compare with lead when it comes to sound. Now I only throw them for the zig-zag trajectories. Cheesy

Ich habe mir eine Form aus silikon gebaut. Das Funktioniert sehr gut.
Ich schieße in eine sandwand. Um sie wieder zu finden, habe ich mir einen Detektor zugelegt. Bisher ging nicht einer verloren. 😁

Not in my experience. Mine usually end up sounding a lot like in this video.

Not to mention that Curious Aardvark was on the other-end of a fish sinker thrown by Larry Bray, and he mentions how even though it was rounded it sounded like 'A swarm of bees'.

That said, not all my throws generated this noise, but a fair amount of them do.

Edit: And looking through historical sources it does seem that slings with lead glandes were used to scare off elephants because of the sound.

Suffice to say, you should do a video on this phenomenon, I've always wanted to see your performance with lead! Wink

@
TheJackinati

in the vid description he says "70 gram flat lead glans" which is very easy to make noise.
The shape of yours that makes sound is flat or rounded biconical like an olive fishing weight?

if let's say i use 50-100 glandes to experiment and make a video the cost will be 20-50euros which is a lot since I will not be able to recover most of it or recycle it, also I don't have the budget and time right now for this, in the future probably I'll do.

I really don't want to lose these either. If I don't have a place to sling them with recovery they won't be slung. I'll keep them in storage for the day I have my own large enough yard (aka slinging range.) But I will keep one or 2 rolled within my every day carry sling.
