Slinging Rocks!

New here
Jul 2nd, 2019 at 8:33am

Hi everyone,
Brand new here, never really messed with slings before, beyond slipping a piece of bicycle inner tube over a stick and flinging rocks, apples, etc with it as a kid.
Then I saw some of your videos on YouTube, now I'm sitting here with a lap full of Paracord, making another sling. The first one was a simple sheepshank. I'm hit or miss getting rocks to even go forward, when I remember to let go of the release cord. Sometimes it seems like I get it right (accidentally of course) and the rock really flies. Others, it drops out, or goes only a short distance, or even straight up (ack!)
This is fun so far, and I'm enjoying learning.
Cheers everyone

Welcome from Pennsylvania!  Glad to hear you're having fun. Cheesy

Just keep at it.  Better control will come in time.

You'll be surprised how quickly you'll pick up the basics in only a few weeks of practice. Starting off with tennis balls can be safer, but, saying that, I started with 200g+ rocks straight out the gate and I'm yet to break any windows or hurt anyone (except maybe hitting myself with the release cord) Cheesy

Howdy from Texas!  Keep trying and you’ll get the hang of it. It took me several months to stop throwing tennis balls into my neighbors yards.

Yo;
    Welcome from New Jersey.  For many of us the fact that slinging isn't easy is at least one of the things that makes it interesting.  We all had to start at the beginning. Hang in there.
