sling vs. sling staff?

hello I'm new to this forum and some what new to the hobby(?) Tongue

. I use both sling and sling staff (two handed 4ft haft and the pouch is half way down when cocked), I was wonder why people give the sling staff a bad rap for being inaccurate and long ranged only? when I using my staff I can easily hit stuff close to me as well as being able to aim as well I can with a sling ( hit my target a sixth of time and get within a 2ft range.) Is it because lack of practice or have I figured something out?

The general opinion seemed to be that staff slings are actually easier to learn than regular slings. Although practice will certainly be a big part of how accurate someone is with one.

I've never used a staff sling, so it's interesting to hear about someone else's experience with them. How long is the staff part of your sling?

Ein Fustibal ist leicht erlernbar. Das stimmt. Aber es gibt einiges wovon viele keine Ahnung haben. Man kann tatsachsächlich sehr genau schießen.
Verändern sie die Position ihrer Hände und sie werden verschiedene Distanzen erreichen. Mit Training können sie exakt die Distanz vorhersagen.
Auf historischen Bildern wird David sehr oft mit einem stab dargestellt. Klar. Er war ein Hirte. Aber einen Hirtenstab sieht anders aus. Dazu kommt, daß David seinen stab oft verkehrt herum trägt. 😁

From what I've understood and my few tests, staff slings don't actually throw much further than hand slings but they throw heavier ammo the same distance as you can reach with smaller ammo and a hand sling. If that makes sense. A staff slinger and a hand slinger can both hit the same target at their shared maximum range but the staff sling can hit it with a much larger stone.

wasn't aware anyone said staff slings were less accurate.
As with most apocryphal slinging stories, probably someone who'd never used one.

A short handled staff sling is actually a lot more accurate than a plain sling as it's a much easier motion to repeat.
Also, while you can't aim it per-se - you can use the staff to point at the target.

As kick says, becasue you lack a windup on a staff sling you won't get more distance. But you should get more consistent results.

My thoughts exactly. From my experiments I found no difference between the range and accuracy of staff and hand slings. But the staff sling can hurl a much heavier projectile.
