First Aid Kit
Mar 20th, 2019 at 2:47pm

I'm very soon graduating as a nurse and I recently thought that really, with the medical knowledge I have, I feel I should be prepared (at least a little bit) for general, everyday first aid. To that end, I've collected up most of the basics for an "EDC" (Every Day Carry) first aid kit, including a few extras I've picked up from various places (a seatbelt cutter, a tourniquet, emergency bandage packets).

I was wondering what do people on the forum have in their first aid kit? What do you think is essential for all first aid kits? Have you ever had to use your first aid kit (just cause I'm interested in people's stories Cheesy)?

Not a EDC first aid kit but at work we have first aid kits in the trucks. Seems like the most used items are the saline eye wash and sticky would coverings , bandaids and plaster tape.
I think that gaffatape is a good one too , first aid for people and things ha ha

I think it was the law when we lived in germany, to have a first aid kit always in the car.
I'm ashamed to say I don't have one in my car in england.

I'll keep an eye out for something suitable, I have water and a rain cloak and various other bits - but no first aid kit.
Really should remedy that.

That looks pretty good. The scissors and tweezers look pretty flimsy and I'm guessing, from expeirence with some cheap first aid kits, that the tape sucks Cheesy But yeah looks pretty comprehensive. Couldn't see how big the bag is but shouldn't be too bulky.

I took the DIY approach to a first aid kit. What's surprised me is that I can't find eye cups anywhere except the internet. And I would think that'd be common.

My kit is small and probably should have more in it.  I go with gauze, scissors, medical tape, antibiotic cream, iodine, hydrogen peroxide solution, alcohol, band aids, thermometers, and lots of different sized Ace bandages.  I should have some Benzedrine. I'm also considering getting some Narcan.  Though there are no more drug addicts in my life you never know when something like that could come in handy and save someone.

I have kits in cars and my house, but most of the stuff expires before it gets used. I try to keep the bare necessities on my person anyway. Uncle Bill’s Keychain tweezers and bandages are the most common items I need. My Zebra flashlight could be useful for first aid too and is always in my pocket. I keep gaffers tape wrapped around an old hotel keycard in my wallet and that makes a decent expedient bandage with some toilet paper or cotton from a t-shirt acting as the pad over the wound. I also have a leatherman micra on my keychain that’s good for personal grooming like trimming fingernails and dealing with hangnails. I always have a good set of medical shears nearby too, but mostly because they are useful for any tough scissor job, not because I use them for medical purposes.
