Hello from California/Texas
Mar 20th, 2019 at 12:58am

Hello,

Although I am from California, I am currently going to school in Texas.

I started slinging in September (around six months ago) after a game of Humans vs. Zombies (HvZ). In the game, humans try to avoid getting tagged by zombies during the week, but humans can stun zombies for a short period of time using Nerf darts or socks. At the end of the week, someone suggested using a sling to throw socks so I could hit zombies from a long distance since I refused to pay for a Nerf blaster. It sounded like a good idea to me, so I made some slings, and I have been practicing several times a week since then. Unfortunately, balled up socks hurt when thrown from a sling, so they will not be allowed in future HvZ games. Nerf Rival balls are still allowed though.

Currently, I am interested in the physics of slinging, and improving my range an accuracy.

Not unless you're putting a rock in the middle !

I really must get a 'how to make sockballs' video made.

Welcome from northern maine,  I have to agree,  rolled up socks dont hurt, I had a few children under age of 10 playing dodge ball with socks as ammo. Plus I have played adult dodgeball with socks,  it definitely doesn't hurt.

Here are pictures of three of my slings.

The one with a small pouch is just a five strand sheepshank.
The medium sized one is a woven five strand sheepshank.
The large one was made using CodeMaker's single strand paracord sling tutorial. As you can see, the outer sheath of the paracord broke, so I am making another using Mersa's tutorial.

Too bad about the break.  That looks like it was a real nice sling.

LeTourneau?  I seriously considered going to school there, but became a Red Raider instead.
